I guess Jo Canadian is our resident cartoonist.

Only because I hardly have time to form a sentence because of incessant phone calls. At least I'm being paid for that part...as annoying as it is.

 And anyways, it's fun.

You forgot the tyranny of press ownership, Toro. Six companies contol every mainstream TV and radio staion in the USA. They all have a very similar political bent, and it ain't liberalism. What does the radical right do? Try to take over PBS.

The best democracy money can buy....

Neither country is on its way to a dictatorship. That's just silly.

The Patriot Act has curbed a few rights, some of which are disturbing and un-American, such as being able to hold terrorist suspects indefinitely without charge. But I think that America started at a higher level of freedom than Canada but is working itself down, though in different ways.

With the exception of speach laws, can you give an example of higher freedom?

Press bans are an obvious one. Economic. Taxes. Medical care. Buying alcohol.

I would agree with Rev though that there is too much money in the US political system.

Greater market freedom isn't exactly what I meant, but in any case, point taken. 8)

I say "but" a lot don't I?

Yeah, ignore the reality, Toro. You are are lying and you know it. The US press is controlled by right wing interests. Six of them.

Sit there and spin, little buddy. A liar talking in circles is still a liar, after all.

Hollinger (Conrad Black) controlled 60% of our newspapers during the 90's. The bastard renounced his Canadian citizenship in exchange for a seat in the British House of Lords as Lord Black of Crossharbour.

Yes they did. About 90% of the press in Canada is still owned by right wing interests. They get really mad when anybody talks back.

Make sure you talk back. A lot.

Please provide details of your claim in order to prove it. The only real right wing papers are the Sun chain and the Post. All others, especially the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal in Alberta are so left they cannot even turn right. As I understand it, they are owned by the same ownership group, so I would suspect that the rest of the papers in the chain are left as well. And the Blob and Grail, and the Canadian Bullshit Corporation are very left.
