London's Lost Graveyard: Crossrail Discovery

Crossrail is a 73-mile railway line under construction in London and its environs. One of its main features is its 26 miles of new tunnels, which are being carved out under the capital using giant tunnelling machines. Ten new world-class stations for the 21st century are also being constructed. It is Europe's largest construction project and is due to open in 2019. But the construction work has uncovered a 300-year-old graveyard that reveals intriguing new information about the people who built London, as this fascinating documentary reveals.

Joanna Lumley's Trans-Siberian Adventure

Episode 2

The huge statue of Genghis Khan, who founded the mighty Mongol Empire, the second-largest empire in history after the British Empire

The actress and former model reaches the midway point of her 6,000-mile journey from Hong Kong to Moscow via the Trans-Siberian Railway, taking in the varied sights of Mongolia, a vast, empty land six times the size of the UK but with just 3 million people. She spends time with native nomads, and visits a giant statue of Genghis Khan, as well as a gold mine. She also heads to the nation's capital, Ulan Bator, where she tracks down the famous Mongolian throat-singers, before catching a train bound for mighty Russia, the largest nation on Earth. However, making a start on the Siberian leg of her trek proves more difficult than Joanna expects when she experiences a spot of bother at the border. But then it's off to meet some ballroom dancing enthusiasts... in the unlikely setting of the Siberian city of Irkutsk.

Good movie - one enjoyed very much.

I watched The Human Centipede 2 last night. Could it be the sickest and most depraved film ever made?

Martin is a mentally disturbed loner who lives with his nagging mother on a bleak London council estate, where loud neighbours and squalid living conditions threaten to plunge this victim of sexual and psychological abuse over the edge. Working the night shift as an attendant at an underground car park, he indulges his obsession with The Human Centipede (First Sequence) watching the film over and over on a laptop in his office and meticulously examining the scrapbook he has lovingly filled with memorabilia from the film, including the ***-to-mouth surgery instructions made famous by Dr. Heiter, the mad scientist from Martin's favourite film. Pushed to the brink by his belligerent mother and haunted by the teasing voices of his abusive and imprisoned father, Martin sets into motion his plan to emulate Heiter's centipede by creating his own version. In a rented warehouse, he begins to acquire victims, including his loud, violent neighbour, a prostitute and her lecherous client, and several more: including Martin's piece de resistance, one of the actresses from The Human Centipede (First Sequence). Although lacking the medical skills of his hero, Martin soldiers on with grotesque DIY gusto, armed with a healthy supply of duct tape, household tools and staple guns! What follows is one of the most harrowing and terrifying films ever conceived, featuring a central character that makes Dr. Heiter seem tame in comparison. The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence) is a triumph in biological body-horror by Tom Six, one of the new masters of the horror genre.

It was originally banned in the United Kingdom by the BBFC because of its "revolting" content but was eventually granted an 18 certificate after over 30 cuts were made. The film was also banned in Australia for a short period of time. It is banned in New Zealand.

Life of a Mountain: A Year on Scafell Pike

A beautifully cinematic documentary following a year in the life of England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, through the eyes of the farmers who work the valleys and fells, those who climb the mountain for pleasure and those who try to protect its slopes.

Filmed over a twelve-month period, it follows the seasons on the mountain from spring lambs through to winter snows. The contributions of the British Mountaineering Council and National Trust volunteers make clear the crucial importance of maintaining the landscape quality of England's highest peak for future generations.

Watch it here: BBC iPlayer - Life of a Mountain: A Year on Scafell Pike

All Aboard! The Canal Trip

A two-hour, real-time canal boat journey down one of Britain's most historic waterways, the Kennet and Avon Canal, from Top Lock in Bath to the Dundas Aqueduct. Using an uninterrupted single shot, the film is a rich and absorbing antidote to the frenetic pace and white noise of modern life.

Taking in the images and sounds of the British countryside, underpinned by the natural soundscape of water lapping, surrounding birdsong and the noise of the chugging engine, this is a chance to spot wildlife and glimpse life on the towpath while being lulled by the comforting rhythm of a bygone era.

Along the journey, graphics and archive stills embedded into the passing landscape deliver salient facts about the canal and its social history.

I watched live Friday night rugby league last night on BBC Two between two of England's heavyweights - Leeds Rhinos and St Helens - at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington. And now you can watch the recording of the whole match here.

Rugby League

Challenge Cup Semi-Final: Leeds Rhinos v St Helens

Mark Chapman introduces live coverage of an historic and heavyweight semi-final showdown between Challenge Cup holders Leeds Rhinos and reigning Super League champions St Helens. The two clubs, who currently sit first and second respectively in Super League, have contested some epic matches in recent years, including four Grand Finals, while the Rhinos defeated Saints in the fifth round of the cup en route to lifting the trophy last summer.

Leeds ended a run of six straight final defeats with their 2014 success, while 12-time winners Saints are contesting their first semi-final in four years. Another memorable encounter is in store at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington, which hosts the first Challenge Cup semi-final to be televised live on a Friday night.

The winners will face either Warrington Wolves or Hull Kingston Rovers, who play in today's other semi-final, in the final at Wembley Stadium on 29th August.
