The Rolling Stones - "Ruby Tuesday" (1967)

The London rockers scored their fourth UK No1 with this aesthetically pleasing piece of art.

Incredibly, Mick Jagger and Co are still going today...

The Pretenders - "2000 Miles" (1983)

Released in November 1983, the British/American band was moderately successful at No15 in the UK charts with this song about the death of their guitarist in 1982.

However, despite being a song dedicated to the loss of a friend, it has since become a popular British Christmas anthem.

Chrissie Hynde famously fronts the band. Born in Ohio, she has since become a British citizen...

Jona Lewie - "Stop the Cavalry" (1980)

This heart-wrenching tale based on true events relates the story of a young British soldier in a trench in WWI at Christmas longing to get back to the girl he loves as he ducks German machine gun fire.

The song highlights the pointlessness and tragedy of a war which killed millions of young men over a few miles of Flanders mud.

Despite the dark lyrics, the song has become a Bit ritish Christmas anthem...
