You can't go wrong with heavy metal and its variants.
As a techie, I'm going with carey's version, mainly because she was singing to tracks, not lip synching as was claimed.
The production crew would have been running the stage monitor set up, and so it would be their responsibility to make sure all elements necessary for that to go properly are plugged in, turned on, and functioning correctly.
