Let's hear it. Start with a single mom working at mcd,'s and fill in the blanks.

Ijust can't believe you haven't a clue how someone could become destitute through no fault of their own.

It defies belief.

It sure begs the question; why has the nuclear family divested itself of being a support mechanism for itself?
Because the nuclear family is often incapable of being a support mechanism for itself. It is extended families and clans that have a much better chance of being a support mechanism.

See, that's part of the system. In the nuclear family, disability or job loss of one adult is a sufficient disaster to sink the whole family. This generally wasn't true in extended families and clans.

PS - In many regards, Angstrom isn't wrong (in my opinion)
Oh, I agree! Submissive women and foraging is a perfectly viable lifestyle in 21st-century Canada.

I sure do wonder how humanity ever possibly managed to survive before the introduction of the myriad of social services

According to the news articles I read complete coverage of Obama care has not yet complete
And never will, not being designed to.

Ya know, there's a whole thread on Obamacare. Why don't you check it out and add your profound thoughts? You could even throw in a wail or two for the poor dead beebees.

Why no preparation for the inevitable?
because as human beings sometimes "stuff" happens...one thing that life has taught me is that regardless of prep...we have zero control over many occurrances especially mental, and physical...people have different amounts of baggage, different I.Q's, different abilities and capabilities.... different challenges

so while preparing for the inevitable may be a huge part of your make up, it won't be possible for everyone

Your OP is welfare bums and you gave some American diagrams and one of them dealt with Medicaid and after a few posts I strongly believe that you cut and paste without reading it. Am I right?

My Bank of Nova Scotia Peter Puck savings account never let me down. 40 years I've been building a stash. I could have blew $60 a week on ventes but I don't like burnt coffee and it adds to the money I would have blew on a pack of cigarettes.

that's awesome for you, glad it's worked out so well for you and that you are happy and confident with the choices you have made in life

I don't view life or judge others by what I have been blessed with, or given or managed to do for myself. I do not expect from others what I am capable of doing...some of my friends are extremely well off. Some of my friends, not so much...I love them equally. My dad was an observer of people and I learned it from him, not judging was one of them and I have never questioned that. We do not know the heart and soul of another.

I was blessed with good solid parents, they loved me and helped everyone they could, that's my mind set not only from how I was raised but it is the spirit within me ....my dad was sick from the time I was little, he worked everyday and he should not have...they struggled. I saw their struggle and I grew up fast because fear is contagious especially when you fear for your kids...kids know... what they sacrificed in order to give me the best they possibly could was appreciated and I was an old soul from the get go...

I feel what others feel...it is inherent...

You are right and the same goes for you about me. I am neither angry or destitute. I am doing fine but I still have empathy for those, who through no fault of their own, find themselves in dire straights because I have been there and know what it is like. I do have difficulty understanding someone who seems to have no empathy at all, or at least, that is how your posts come across.

You aren't the only person walking the planet that has experienced bumps in the road.

As far as the uber-judgemental implication you make about empathy, much of what I interpret of your 'empathy' is an outright condemnation of one group and an unconditional level of support for another.

Funny how that knife cuts both ways, eh?

seriously with this personal responsibility , pick yourself up by your bootstraps horse**** again?

Don't for all I care.. You live whatever way you want and I'll do the same... Just stop the bitching about differential levels of success, achievement and comfort, m'kay?

I expected nothing less from you

I've never known you to be right, and you've still got a perfect record in that regard.
