ryan kesler just signed a new 6 yr contract with Anaheim ducks, just under 6 mill per season it seems.

as much as I was glad to see kesler leave canucks, poor attitude and obvious desire to play elsewhere,

he was the ducks best player overall in the playoffs, yes getzlaf was also very good, but not as

consistent throughout the playoffs as kesler, nor was perry.

Vancouver canucks made a trade today and acquired 'branden sutter',center, along with a 3rd round pick in
exchange for bonino, clendening and a 2nd round pick.

benning said he likes sutter on the team to help horvat being able to develop naturally without putting
too much pressure on him to do too much.

sutter is a good player, he will help the team, it is a good trade. I like bonino but his skating had
a lot to be desired, and clendening is a young upcoming defenseman, so they will have to make sure
they replace him with another good defenseman.

good for benning, he is working hard to make this team more competitive, they certainly will have their
work cut out for them, but they did last year too, and did just fine.

I don't believe in allowing the team to sink to the bottom just to get high draftpicks, that is showing
the will to fail, and not the desire to compete, and can't imagine willie Desjardin wanting to coach a
team that is trying to get to the bottom instead of trying to do their best, if they work hard, play
their best, show the fans a good brand of hockey, and still don't make the playoffs, for me that is
much better than the willingness to lose and slide downwards, especially with young players on the
team, who are trying to develop their own game, and if they see a big effort to work hard and play
hard, it is a much better atmosphere for them to improve.

well yes, Brandon is the son of brent sutter, who coached Calgary flames till about 2 years ago, and is a major
part of the red deer rebels, junior team, owner I think.

brett sutter is also an nhl player, son of Darryl sutter, coach of l.a. kings.

Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon donate to Cole Harbour hockey

NHL stars give money earned at world championship

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Colorado Avalanche centre Nathan MacKinnon continue to give back to their hometown of Cole Harbour, N.S.

The NHL stars have provided young fans with a thrill through their active participation at the inaugural week-long Sidney Crosby hockey school. They furthered that gesture by also donating their 2015 IIHF World Championship earnings back to the Cole Harbour Hockey Association.

The Canadian team earned a prize of 1 million Swiss francs in May for its gold-medal performance in the Czech Republic.

Hockey Canada president Tom Renney was on hand Wednesday to present a cheque to the community that helped foster both players' NHL careers.

"I had good conversations with Sid about what we wanted to do with that and one of the things that Sid wanted to do was to donate money back to his minor hockey association," Renney told reporters.

The amount on the cheques Renney presented from the two former first-overall draft picks was not disclosed.

Crosby, who turns 28 on Friday, emphasized the importance of giving back.

"Obviously this is where Nate and I started, so to have the opportunity to give back and… to be able to have it go directly to the minor hockey associations that we were a part of means a lot to us," Crosby told the Chronicle Herald.

The pair have been active across Nova Scotia in recent weeks, making headlines with their presence at the hockey school and their stop to shoot a commercial at a Dartmouth Tim Hortons.

Given the success of the camp, Crosby intends to host it again next summer.

Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Kane the target of rape investigation: Report
POSTMEDIA NETWORK
First posted: Thursday, August 06, 2015 10:55 AM EDT | Updated: Thursday, August 06, 2015 01:59 PM EDT
Four-time NHL all-star Patrick Kane told fans to “watch out” for him following the Chicago Blackhawks' Stanley Cup win.
The hard-partying 26-year-old, who has a history of run-ins with the law, is being investigated by Hamburg (N.Y.) police, according to the Buffalo News, which cited two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the probe.
News sports reporter Tim Graham tweeted Thursday morning that "The Patrick Kane investigation is a rape investigation" and that he "might turn himself in as early as (Thursday)" despite no charges being filed.
The alleged incident between Kane and a woman began at a bar in Evans, N.Y., south of Buffalo, last weekend, according to WKBW 7 News. The local woman has accused Kane of sexual assault, according to the News. The alleged victim attended a hospital and a rape kit was conducted.
Hamburg police wouldn't confirm or deny Kane's potential involvement in a crime.
“We can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of a criminal investigation until such a time as a person is charged with a crime,” Hamburg Police Chief Gregory Wickett told the news outlet.
When contacted by the News, Paul Cambria Jr., the embattled hockey star's one-time lawyer, had “nothing to say,” according to the report. Reporters were turned away at Kane's Hamburg home, just south of Buffalo, by an unidentified man.
In a statement released Thursday, the Blackhawks confirmed they are monitoring the situation: “We are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
Kane and his cousin were arrested in 2009 after allegedly punching and grabbing a Buffalo cab driver over a fare dispute.
In 2012, photos surfaced of Kane embarking on an epic bender at the University of Wisconsin. He was accused of having a drinking problem shortly thereafter and later admitted to the Chicago Sun-Times that things “probably got a little out of control.”
During the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup celebration at Solider Field earlier this summer, Kane took to the mic and told fans he planned to live it up after Chicago knocked off the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
“I know you say I've been growing up, but watch out for me the next week.”

I remember when this piece of work had the run-in with the cabbie a few years ago. Didn't like him then. Like him less now. I wonder how our self professed resident hockey expert feels now after she defended this prick.

maybe it would be a good idea 'not' to assume anything until charges are either laid or not.
the media are trying desperately to make a huge issue out of this, but at this point it isn't
anything concrete, just speculation. something happened, none of us know anything about it yet.

if he is charged then there will definitely be something behind the alligations.''

none of us have a clue what happened.

Don't be so silly. We know exactly what's going on. He's been accused of rape. The police are collecting evidence. Since it's not hush hush, the evidence against him is pretty good. You should stick to regaling us about the 'Nucks great season ahead or what a poor misunderstood young man Patty is.

I think that says it all for now and until we hear something further we should assume nothing! :)

until he is charged, we shouldn't lower ourselves to having him convicted or guilty, but you like the
media can't wait, you are so full of hate, that you can't help yourself.

if he is charged then I will continue to follow the situation along learning as much as I can, but
even then, we won't be given much information, but yes, charges say much more than accusations.

anybody can accuse anybody of anything, then report it to the police, police have to follow up on
those accusations, and rape is serious, but sometimes there is the 'other side' of that accusation,
so I will wait for more information.

Don't be so silly. "Patrick Kane is a douche" is not an assumption. It's a fact based on Patrick Kane's actions. I'm not surprised some folks like to look the other way and pretend he isn't just because he's a good hockey player. He certainly wouldn't be the first talented sports figure to get a free pass.

until he is charged, we shouldn't lower ourselves to having him convicted or guilty....

He can't be convicted of being a douche. Look, I get it. You like Patty and were willing to look the other way when he acted like a douche to the cabbie. You probably defended Bertuzzi as well. He was a king-sized douche before he ever crippled Moore.

any bum can call anybody names, doesn't mean anything, I like facts, not accusations, you just love to
hate, I feel sorry for you.

he is a person, before he is a hockey player, many men over the years have had rape accusations against
them, then either charged with the crime or not, the majority of them haven't even seen a hockey stick, you like many others show your jealousy
of those sports figures or probably anyone who has lots of money, then label them for that reason.
we don't even hear about the majority of the rape accusations and even charges all over north America,
and we don't pay attention, and we have to be very careful about singling a person out because of their
profession, from a ditch digger to a prime minister, they are 'first' a person, and if that person
commits a crime and is then 'charged' by the police, they will be dealt with like any other person, and
move on from there.

you are like a giggly little girl with this information that has come out, you can hardly contain
yourself with glee, it is very sad.

and I'm sure, 'if' he is charged then you will be back here, saying 'see, I told you so', like a child.
until he is charged, you, like us, know nothing.

It's interesting that you finally admit your lack of knowledge. Unlike you though, I knew Kane was a douche before this story ever surfaced and regardless of whether he is charged or convicted, he will continue to be a douche.

you are more immature than my youngest grandchild, whom is 13, longtime advanced past your level.

I'm done with you, I've got real life sensible issues to deal with, no time for you, I've given you
far too much of my time today allready.

There have been instances of celebrities being falsely accused simply so that the alleged victim can gain some sort of sick notoriety. I agree with you and JLM and will withhold judgement until all the facts have become public.

Yep, and there are a lot of people who have wrongly assumed that because a person was found guilty of one crime he/she is guilty of another crime, but to assume so before they are even charged shows the height of ignorance!

I never have been a 'fan' of Patrick's though I am head over heels about Captain Serious . That said, I'm ready to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't often post on the forum anymore, JLM. I got really tired of folks like our pal Cannuck and others whose only mission in life it appears is to endlessly dispute others in a crude manner.

Fortunately, nobody here is doing that...or do you think "douche" = "rapist"?
