In hockey news..........the Caps and Rangers are tied-up 2 to 2 in the 3rd period and Lundquist has made some truly remarkable saves - darn him.
3 - 2 Caps!!!

And the legend of Holtby lives on! They fought hard in the 3rd period, which is all I saw of the game having switched from the World's. Don't know how they played in the other two, but man they played in this one. They are going to be black and blue all over - the shots they stopped - phenomenal. Well done Capitals. The Caps have tied the series. Rock on Washington!

Oh good, glad they won, I just arrived home, didn't know the final, thats great.

Its kind of wierd cheering for washington, wouldn't do it all season, but against the rangers in this
particular format, i'm a capitals fan all of a sudden.

But if things go the way I hope they do, I will be a devils fan soon. lol

If its flyers against rangers, I will be a flyers fan.

If its capitals against flyers, jeesh, I don't know, maybe I would pick straws. lol
(maybe I would cheer for 'holtby' in goal, a nice story).

wonder what 'pea brain' torterella had to say after this game, i'm not going
to make a point of finding out, but I will hear it along the way, sometime.

Ovechkin, repeat offender, left the ice for a head shot.. should be 25 games.

I didn't see it, but they said it 'wasn't' a head shot. They said it was shoulder on shoulder.

Just repeating how the 'so called' experts described the hit.

And yes, he better be careful about any head shot he gives out, he is a repeat offender.

Do you think it is OK to see a player illegally hit another players head?

And in Torres's case, multiple times, should he only get 2 games?
Hossa can't even remember the hit, he is still not normal yet, and torres has the audacity
to ask for an appeal to get out of his little problem, too bad, as his problem is permanent,
his brain is allready scrambled, I think it happened at birth.
He is serving a similar sentence as cooke last year, missed the end of the season and all of the
playoffs, and he deserved every game he missed.

Now he is a nice little boy, keeping his elbows to himself, see how easy it is to do, too bad he
was so stupid he had to sit out many games to learn, and its still all about him, he couldn't stand
missing the games, thats the only reason he isn't doing it any more, not because he has any compassion
for all the players who suffered under his hand.

NOTE; I just watched the hit on the computer, it definitely is a charge because he left his feet, but because of the direction of the hit, I couldn't see girardi
because ovetchkin was in my line of site.
So I haven't any opinion on the head shot part of it, but if it was actually a
head shot he would have been laying on the ice, because ovetchkin's charge was
hard and fast, similar to torres's, so he wouldn't have been continueing to play if
his head was the point of impact, as it was with hossa.
I would like to see it in slow motion from the other direction, so I can actually see
in detail just how the contact was made.

I don't think it's "OK" to connect with someone's head but it's going to happen whether there is intent or not. Just like it's not OK to get into an accident in NASCAR, but people are trying to win and are making decisions quickly at a very high speed. But if throwing repeat offenders out of the league is the standard then Ovetchkin should be gone for the rest of the playoffs. Compairing the differences between his hit and Torres is only splitting hairs.

Fortunately or not, depending on one's point of view, there are rules governing the type of hits. Torres was ruled a head- hit, Ovi's was ruled as charging. Yes, he left his feet, yes he charged but in the replays I saw - and they are constantly replaying on TSN, it was a shoulder to shoulder hit by Ovi. Not defending him at all, as I think the rules should be tightened even further. But as long as they go by the rule book then the penalties or suspensions and fines will reflect the call.

yep, and that is the point, 'intent' and shanahan takes that into consideration when assessing suspensions.
A bad hit to the head as a result of a torres hit is definitely suspendable, it wasn't just a regular
body check that slid up and made coinsidental contact, it was charging, leaving the feet and making direct contact with hossa's head, also his
rap sheet which made the 25 games, and I still haven't seen any other views of the ovetchkin hit, and
I dob't know if the head was contacted, and if it was, how.
Haven't heard from shanahan so I don't know what is happening there.
But we have seen the results of hossa, and if ovetchkin's hit had have contacted the head the same as
torres's hit did, the guy would not have returned to play.
It isn't splitting hairs 'if' his head was hit hard and directly, still don't know that, and it makes a
big difference, but I agree with you, IF that is the case then he should be gone too.

Same with cooke last season, targeting the head, elbowing and a rap sheet like torres's.

Splitting hairs isn't the answer here, the answer is direct head contact, charging and repeat offender,
so if shanahan decides that is the case, he will be 'gone'.

The hit must be watched many times from different angles, just looking at the hit and saying it is
the same as torres's doesn't cut it.
Fairness must be given to both players, the hitter and the hittee, and sometimes the hittee causes
his own problems, so that can come into play as well, shanahan played for many years, he knows exactly
how to look at these videos, much better than any of us do.

There is no doubt he hit his head and left his feet in doing so.

Alex Ovechkin questionnable hit on Daniel Girardi. May 5th 2012 - YouTube

I have no opinion on the head shot part of it, haven't seen it well enough, but the verdict is split, depends what side one is
seeing it from, which is pretty normal.
As I said before the video I saw was taken from behind ovetchkin and it can't be
seen well enough to see if it is a headshot or not, so I'm waiting to see it better.

ROCK ON JOISY!

4 to 2 over Flyers w/ an empty-netter to seal the deal!

3 to 1 lead in the series!

HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY MARTEN BRODEUR

Excellent 3rd period, which is all I was able to watch, NJ out shot and out played the Flyers. So much for having the 'Greatest Player in the World' eh, Lavie......snicker, snicker. Many said Joisy couldn't do it but somehow, someway they have managed to prove the naysayers wrong.

Off to Phillie for the next game and a chance to wrap the series! Who da thunk!

Hey, Joisy.........................I BELIEVE!

yeah thats about it, one side sees what they want to see, and the same for the other, it is comical to
hear 'each' talk about certain hits, its all in the eye of the beholder.
neither one sees it exactly like it is.
like a lawyer told me once, long ago, there is 3 stories to be told, one side, the other side, then the truth.

when philly played pittsburg, it was pretty even, as both teams lack on defense, now philly are getting
pretty frustrated, because jersey has a very good defense and philly don't like that, they just want
to keep attacking with their good offense, but i'm afraid the game is a 200ft game, teams must play
both ways.
And, brodeur is playing better than i've seen him play all year.

GO JERSEY GO

GO JERSEY GO

What I really like seeing is how Jersey can control the puck behind the net - there were minutes where Philly just couldn't buy a puck. And some of the take-aways in the neutral zone that I saw Jersey execute were just classic. They just look so much more together as a team.

Martie just looked so great in the net tonight - at least in the period that I saw - the way he would get the puck to his players and save them being mashed against the boards! Now that`s the kind of goalie that really thinks about what he is doing and Martie was thinking tonight. I am really happy for him, especially on his birthday. Rock on Marten!

Jersey can do it, talloola. They can win this series and I have a feeling that they know it too. They look..........assured on the ice. The Flyers look anything but...........they seemed at sixes and sevens tonight, at times.

YEAH.................GO, JERSEY, GO!

washington lost a heartbreaker tonight to new york, rangers tied it up with 6 seconds left in regulation time,
then lost it in overtime.

3 games to 2 now for rangers

phoenix is half way thru the last period up 2-0 on nashville, if they can hold them off till its over
they will win the series, and play l.a. in the conference final.

i'll post the final score soon

nashville just scored - 2-1 with 5 minutes to go.

'THEY DID IT', phoenix will play l.a. in the conference final.

final score 2-1 phoenix

Rock on Yotes...................way to go Phoenix. Great game guys.

It was a heart-breaker for the Caps and Joel Ward has to put this behind him. He got them into the series and he can still help get them to the next one.

But really, it is the Coyotes I am most happy for - defeating Nashville was a big win for them and they did it in fine fashion. Smith was great in the net, he was better on the night then young Holtby who did a stellar job in a losing cause.

Coyotes have their work truly cut out for them against L.A. It will be great to watch Quick and Smith go up against each other, should make for some interesting games.

GO, COYOTES, GO!

i'm switching to l.a. now, I think they have the better team, but that isn't why I'm going to cheer
for them.
They just seem closer to me, with the big connection to canucks.

Those teams who had to fight tooth and nail to get in the playoffs brought their games way up fighting
to get inside that 8th place, and that momentum carried right on, good for them.

you and I can have fun on the opposite sides.

congratulations to the 'new jersey devils', they have knocked the flyers out of the playoffs, by winning

3-1 tonight.

Brodeur spoke highly of his team, mentioning that his team (especially tonight) took quite a beating from
the flyers, but 'did not' rataliate, stuck to their game plan and won the game. They did not want to get
into the same situation that pittsburg did with the flyers.

They will play either the rangers or the washington capitals.

Pittsburgh must be feeling really good, the team that smeared them just got smeared................LOL I was hoping for Philly but I guess Martin Brodeur deserves another crack at the Cup. (albeit small potatoes compared to the President's Trophy) LOL

almost down to four teams now, I was so dissapointed that rangers ended up winning the last game,
now washington have to win the next one to stay in it.

I was glad devils won, didn't like the philly tactics, the series was very hard hitting, and it seems
philly was trying to intimidate the devils, 'didn't work', the name of the game is hockey, not
physical intimidation, that is only a small part of the total package.
