Is it okay for them to show sex if the model is 18 but looks 14 and is playing 14 on tv? Not that I know in this case if that's true or not, but, sometimes the imaginary scenario they are depicting overrides the actual age of the model, ya know?
I understand, but if they're explaining that that's what the show is all about in the first place and is to bring attention to irresponsible behavior such as what they were portraying in their posters, then what else are they supposed to be using to advertise their show?
Not to mention that we are teaching children about sex at the very least, at grade 7'ish, they're already exposed to sex everywhere they go, a good chunk of those teens are already having sex to begin with (along with many other things), and the fact that the show is talking about sex between teens or people around the same age bracket (Not about old creepy guys trying to snatch little kids for their sexual pleasure) and it's supposed to be talking about the consequences of the topic in question... I don't see a problem with it, let alone a poster with no nudity or actual sexual acts being performed in the poster to begin with, with actors who are over 18 years of age.
What about 90210 back in the day, where some of the characters were running around snoting cocaine, or drinking and driving, blackmailing, and all that other stuff they threw on that made teenagers look "Cool" but taught lessons about those actions at the same time?
Degrassi Jr/High series also touched on a lot of these things, with STD's, pregnant teenagers, etc. I don't see this as any different. From what I understand, the show is to touch base with some important issues which many teenagers face everyday over there, and to get the messages to teenagers in a manner they will find interesting but also informitive, I say go for it.
Like I said, most of the teens who would see the poster are probably already having sex.... one little poster isn't going to change their entire perspective and think "Wow.... that looks like fun, I want to do that."
That's about as sad as the tobacco company's restrictions on advertising and thinking they influence a child's views on smoking. I never smoked until just a little over a year ago, long after all the ads were restricted. I grew up looking through my dad and my brother's penthouse and hustler mags which all had tobacco ads in them.... I never wanted to smoke.... yet the PC groups think kids will follow what they see all the time. Kids will follow what their parents and what their friends are doing.... not what they see on a still image plastered on a wall. All my friends and people I knew in school started smoking or having sex because someone else was doing it..... People should be focusing their attention on parents and friends of these kids in question, as we will never remove sex or violence from everywhere in the world.... they're a part of our nature.... educate your children and explain these things that they see.... don't just hide it from them and make them have to figure it out on their own.... I'm sure there's plenty of people in here who might have made some better decisions in their lives if they were told about something properly or with openess that they ended up trying on their own due to curiousness.
