I think I heard one of the Republican's yield the floor to Smith and Wesson.

They did it. They passed the health care bill, by 219 votes. Once Obama signs it, it becomes the law.

It is quite a feather in the cap for Obama, and even more so, to Pelosi. It was not easy to herd together all the disparate Democrats and get a majority.

Pelosi, the first female speaker has proved to be more effective than any males so far. Obama was able to achieve what Clinton couldn't, thanks in large part to Pelosi.

It's a done deal!!!

Bush Jr. started the bailouts with the banks, Obama continued with car makers and now the American people.

Now the insurance companies know that the government means business and they have to comply or risk losing customers.

The American people have won and for the Republicans they should look at this as an investment that will pay for itself sooner than they figured

"Obama was able to achieve what Clinton couldn't, thanks in large part to Pelosi."

Republican Newt Gingrich was Speaker in those days. That's what killed this progressive legislation back then.

40,000 Americans die each year from lack of health care coverage. The blood of many thousands of impoverished Americans is in the hands of Gingrich. Had only a fraction of that number died due to terrorism the right wingers would have been angered. But because they died from the actions of Republicans, it was no big deal to them.

Whatever happens today it will stall in their Senate or be repealed after November. There are too many with big money at stake to allow it to happen. They will continue to fund supposed grassroots campaigns, like the Tea Party, and sway enough people to believe it's in their best interests to maintain the status quo.
In other words one big American will screw a smaller American for money, you think that is fair Kreskin? When in fact the insurance Companies are on record costing the American Government $500 billion in wage fraud each and every year? I don’t thing you would like the word repeal if you were on the receiving end.

It will be a black eye on the Republicans if they take the road screw you as long as I am covered.

I think that health care reform would be much more difficult to repeal than it is to pass: It’s one thing to extend services to a previously uncovered segment of the population, and another thing entirely to strip that same segment of access to health care. I would bet that a good number of the ‘no’ votes today would actually be opposed to repealing the bill once it’s been enacted.

Good points FP, If the republicans attempted such an unpopular move, it will blow up on their faces come election time 2012. About time stop the pillage on the backs of needy sick people. Today I don’t have a problem with Capitalism taking the back seat. Good job Democrats.............:cool::cool:

From looking at the charts it appears the U.S. is making some progress in the right direction (given the population is increasing) albeit nowhere near fast enough. I'm not quite sure how this is tied to the health care system.

Now that the Bill is passed lets see how long it will take for the Congress to hear and vote on the Reconciliation package that is designed to correct some parts of the original bill. I'll bet the bickering begins anew. While all of this energy is wasted there are many more pressing issues that are just languishing.

As i understand it the House passed the Senate version of the legislation, which means that it will become law as soon as the President signs it.

Certainly this extends health care provisions to Americans that have never had it before, and regulates some of the more predatory practices of the insurance companies.. like withdrawing coverage if someone gets sick, or limiting coverage to a maximum amount, or rejecting anyone with a pre-existing condition.

The promises of cost savings overall have likely been crippled by the lack a 'public option'. This could well be a boon to insurance companies, as public money will be siphoned through them with little incentive or oversight to control costs.

The Executive Order to exclude all abortion coverage, is a shell game. It has no force in law. It will allow states and private insurance companies move the government inputs around providing a facade of exclusion, while fully funding it.
