Sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted.
And when that does happen, the result can be terrifying, if not deadly.
Richard Wesley, a bow hunter from Hearst, Ont., was fortunate to survive after being charged by a black bear during a hunt in a remote area south of his hometown. Wesley was virtually unhurt in the unprovoked attack — “a bruised elbow and ego” were his only injuries — that was, incredibly, captured on video with a Go-Pro style camera on his chest.
Naturally, the two-minute video was uploaded to YouTube with a brief explanation. It has been viewed more than 415,000 times already.
“I am so happy after this confrontation with a black bear during our spring hunt,” Wesley said in the YouTube description. “No wounds except a bruised elbow and ego where the bear threw me down. Genuinely happy that this was a non fatal or tragic outcome. Proving that the black bear is a wild and unpredictable animal. Again so happy with the outcome.”
Wesley, who noticed the bear when it was about 100 feet away, attempted to scare it off by yelling. The bear moved slowly at first, then charged at full speed, leaping before it hit Wesley square in the chest.
The camera fell to the ground and failed to capture the mauling but a few seconds later Wesley picked it up and scampered off. The video didn’t show the fate of the bear but Wesley was armed with just a bow and arrow when it charged him.

Glad to see it worked out OK.
What if they just screw you up, and then just leave you there to die and rot in bug season...
:)
I'd rather go by bus

Its sucks

The ravens would take your eyes so you wouldn't see which scavenges were coming up, only smell their stench and hear their breathing. No end to the entertainment while waiting for the long sleep.

With any luck you will have been dismembered before the bugs show up.

No word on the bear in the background, to the right of the tree. Looking for beloved cub, . . . . .

The bear was provoked. The guy yelled at it and in response the bear charged. You're told to NOT yell but to talk quietly, calmly. Wonder if the hunter had any particular attractant spray on? Maybe the bear was out hunting too.

Bears are predictable....if you know how bears communicate. This guy maybe should learn some wilderness things before he goes back into the wild.

Some days ya gits the bar and some days the bar gits you.

That would be a perfectly fair arrangement in a perfectly fair universe.

The funniest part is the guy, and apparently the writer, thinks human, and specifically Canadian, standards of provocation apply to bears. Or should.

People on this forum are such a pack of idiots it's not even funny-any fool can see the Bear was surprised by the hunter's presence because Bears are famously short sighted and the shouting spooked him into charging.

Why the hunter is standing in what is more or less a ditch and not prepared to shoot the Bear I don't know but he's dumb enough to post here that's certain.

Oh, the irony....

We're so glad to have you among us.... ;-)

You don't have to be polite. You can tell him the truth. He's a big enough azzhat to take it.

No we're not glad he's amongst us. Sheesh, Lone. You drunk?
