:Use of cell phone while driving ban.

I'm a truck driver with over one million accident free miles, mostly in Southern Ontario and Toronto, and my first cell phone was a Novatel. I have routinely eaten a sandwich, changed gears, talked on the phone, changed gears, written down info from dispatch, had another bite of said sandwich, changed gears, yelled at a really dumb twit car driver, changed gears, written down the remaining info from dispatch, had a quick slug of Coke, changed gears, hung up the phone and continued on my way accident free.
Learn to drive you TWITS and then you could talk on the phone and drive. The real problem is the TWITS in cars that never actually learned to drive.

Sorry for the rant people but really the actually phone is not the problem, it's the user.

I could not disagree with you more. You are an accident waiting to happen. I wouldn't be so smug if I were you. We all think we are great multi-taskers until the day comes we don't do it quite as well as we thought we could.

Banning cell phones only makes idiots think they have dealt with a prolem.
My point exactly being, there are many more distractions, and if they become one, then maybe a person should not be driving or take a defensive driving course.
Cell phones are not the hazard,, the driver is. It is always easy to blame others or more ridiculous an innate object for short comings.
I know a truck driver as well, and he texts me all the time, and im's me on messenger.
And like I said I know people that can text with phone in their pocket, seems to me to be quite a talent.

And really does anyone think I would waste my time "debating" when they lower themselves to lack of nothing better to say than to begin with an insult! How dumb is that?????:roll:

I agree with your post,,, not a rant, an opinion, and your right to it, and what makes it even better is it is right! In my opinion of course! lmclao! As I said I know of a few truck drivers and seen many multi task on the highway,,, even flirt...lol! (is that multi tasking???).
I must say most of ya's are real gentlemen....
At least ya'll have always been polite to me on the highways, gas stations, etc.

The proof is in the pudding. Cell phones can be a distraction and that distraction is amplified or reduced with skill levels. Drive to your skill level. If everyone was required to learn what even an unexperienced truck driver does then accidents would be reduced greatly.

I think it's time the entire "driving crop" needs thinning. When I was growing up driving was considered to be a privilege NOT a right, but of course the way things have evolved today- that is a pile of crap. The general behaviour of the driving public is reprehensible. I walk every day and I see a lot. People driving with their dog perched in their lap. I'd say at least half the drivers will not stop for a pedestrian. I see drivers taking 90 degree intersections with tires squealing. I see drivers passing a stopped vehicle on the right (w/o reducing their speed) all the time- eventually a child is going to be killed. If those committing all the above listed infractions (oh yeah one more, tail gating) were to be banned from driving, the roads would be about 300% safer and we wouldn't have the traffic that requires the continuous funding of new roads.

Excellent post JLM Everybody is in a hurry. That is why they've got cell phones to bring the office with them. When I was working I used to be glad to get in my car to get away from the bloody phone.

You make good points. I did not make it this far by being in a big hurry. I know from experience that you don't get there sooner by trying to get a couple car lengths ahead especially in an urban setting.

I have highway and city driving experience (most in the city are foriegn drivers with little to no experience at driving, it is all just city). And if you do much city driving you will soon learn that yes to be a couple of cars ahead a lot of times does
get you there sooner or through the lights.
And yes if everyone could do half of what a truck driver does and knows then we might have some safer roads. Teach out of country people how to drive in this country,, would be a great start.

Before a person is licensed to drive they should be able to demonstrate manners off the road (especially when addressing ones elders), to ensure they don't get on the road with an obnoxioius attitude........................:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Well first of all you took the rude road,among others,, okay that is all you got. And it is your personality to be cranky... very bad manners.
My manners are impeccable so I guess that is why my driving is as such. But if someone is rude to me, or gets in my face, they get it back, or treated with no respect, and ignored. In other words...dismissed, as inconsequential.
