Is this an example of the current US policy ???

Did you read the article OB?

Sounds to me more like a case of Suicide By Cop. Really, the guys on the plane are there to deter certain things from happening. Everyone knows that. Nobody in their right mind would go on a plane knowing there's an armed officer and claim, "I gotta Bomb!!"

However being mentally ill, he may not have known any better, but how could the officer really know? It's not like asking that question would be the first thing on the offishers mind, it would be more like: Holy Sh!t, why on my shift <<Soils shorts>>... Must stop....

so why did they have to KILL the man.?? Could they have not perfected their sharp shooting skills and just injure him??

.........Oh yes........ an injured man can still set off a supposed bomb, is the working theory on this one.

One has to ask ......how he got passed inspections to get ON the plane in the first place?? And when was this "bomb" threat made known??? In flight?? If so ...... where were the alerts???

and ITN.....not sure being on board with gun equipped marshals is all that comforting either. "accidents" happen.

but that is how it is now.....

I think not

RE: US-Breaking News.(Pol

According to the article I read, the threat was made on the ground as the plane was boarding to continue on from Miami to Orlando. Some question exists as to whether the couple were on the original flight from Colombia or had recently boarded for the next leg.

All good questions, but when it comes down to it you'd have to realize the stress one in an authorative & protective postion would have to go through realizing that everyone there (let's say 100 - 200 people of all ages) are your responsibility...especially if anything goes wrong...To imagine it, I'd be inclined to not take chances. But then I hopefully would not want to have to be put in that position to begin with.

yes........but these people are supposed to be TRAINED. .....and their role is not that different from a cop. (law ,order and security are intertwined.........IMHO)

Go to the Vancouver International airport yelling "bomb in bag, bomb in bag" and start reaching in your bag....see what Canadian security will do to you.

don't think so...

here is a what if?? What if he really had a bomb and they shot /killed him......and detonated the bomb at the same time?? How can they tell what type of bomb it is???

anyhow.......just too many questions come up about this approach. Let's see how it plays out. There are wiser people than I to assess this very tricky (IMHO) issue.

but one can be certain of one thing.......it has made a point to all passengers, has it not?? When people board a flight .......they will remember this.. so the "message" is obvious

I never cared much for flying to begin with; now I don't fly at all. Too much hassle, too much drama.

I used to like it ........but not anymore. I don't fly much now either. and particularly to the US.--but then , don't travel to the US....period now.

things have changed..

http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2005/12/07/shot-plane-051207.html

what I want to know is how he passed inspections ......as this was ON The plane. Wouldn't the marshal have asked himself that same question before simply "believing " this chap?? IF he passed all the layers of security.........something is off here.

reminds me of a patient who came into our psych op clinic with a back pack saying he has handgrenades inside. and that he would blow the building up if we did not do as he asked.

( and we didn't shoot him.......let alone kill him .)

there will be a cover-up. That is unless it was caught on video. Maybe a digital camera video. Now that would be news.

Latest is that no bomb was found in his bag.

Answer - so it comes down to ' I'm gonna kill anybody who makes a threat - because - because I got a gun'. There has always been a few little winks among 'armed services' 1: I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six 2: when you go on the stand say "I have been trained to aim for 'center of mass' (pause) and to give a warning shot if possible." 3: 'I believed that the lives of many people were at risk (as in emminant danger?)" while thinking ' because I got a gun' 4: It's the flashbacks man, the flashbacks.'
