The UK population, one of the largest and fastest growing populations in Europe, is set to reach 72.5 million by 2032 due in large part to immigration.
By comparison, the population of France will be 69.5 million and Italy's will be 58 million, down from the 59 million it is now.
The UK became larger than France in terms of population in around 2023 to become the third largest country in Europe after Russia and Germany.
Britain is also expected to overtake Germany within the next few decades and to become, once again, Europe's largest economy.
