LOUISVILLE, Ky. — U.S. Sen. Rand Paul’s attorneys say in a court filing that he plans to undergo hernia surgery in Canada because of injuries he suffered when a neighbour attacked Paul while he was doing yard work at his Kentucky home.
The filing in Paul’s lawsuit against Rene Boucher says the senator will travel to Ontario for outpatient surgery scheduled later this month.
The document says the surgery is related to the 2017 attack. Boucher pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress and was sentenced to 30 days in prison. Federal prosecutors are appealing the sentence.
A Paul spokeswoman didn’t immediately explain why Paul is having the surgery in Canada, where medical care is publicly funded and universally provided. Paul touts private-market approaches for U.S. health care problems.

Because it's a two-tier system anymore. It's not like he's getting the surgery for free.
You see, at least in Ontario, private paid surgeries are how Ontario surgeons make their real money. Surgeons are basically paid for so many surgeries a year. For example, some years ago I remember hearing that the province will only pay heart surgeons for 8 surgeries a year through the public plan. It's one of the reasons Ontario ended up with a two-tier system.

Shouldice clinic is the best hernia hospital in the world.

The Global Leader in Non-Mesh Hernia Repair.

For over 70 years, we have been the only licensed hospital in the world dedicated to repairing hernias. More than 98% of our cases are performed with our natural tissue technique...without the use of mesh.
https://www.shouldice.com/

He ( or his congressional NON obama healthcare plan) will have to pay
When I was there many years ago it, cost me OHIP plus 25 CAD per night for the three nights.
The food alone was worth the price.
Their record was 97% never need repairs, while a regular hospital it was at that time, 97% guaranteed will need repairs.
There were many Americans there and NOTE:
THEY ALL PAID full pop out of POCKET. They were there because GLOBAL LEADER QUALITY
(with a warranty).

Just like SICK KIDS is also a global leader and I bet Sunny brook is right up there too.

Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is recognized as one of the world’s foremost paediatric health-care institutions and is Canada’s leading centre dedicated to advancing children’s health through the integration of patient care, research and education.

SickKids has a rich history of innovation in global paediatric health and with a reputable network of global partners, the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health is well poised to effectively address global child health issues in resource-poor environments.

Sunnybrook's groundbreaking research changes the way patients are treated around the world. Our over 200 scientists and clinician-scientists conduct more than $100 million of breakthrough research each year. Tomorrow, we will discover ways to treat the untreatable.

WE HAVE THE BEST IN THE WORLD IN ONTARIO.

AT Shouldice, and I would also bet the other two places above ( I never actually gamble ), charge non OHIP members or their healthcare providers. The main thing is that those from out of Ontario pay full pop unless its a charity type deal, and I believe all hospitals in the US do charity too...like they do with Illegal immigrants who are dragging the whole damn US system under to the point the people who do pay are sometimes shut out more that than the illegals are.

How much for the wall again????
;)
The democRATS Neocons and trumpHATERS are a (Un)hol(y) HERD of TROJAN WHORSEs.

Having said all that, personally I have conquered my heart condition. My stats are all now excellent ( as of check up last week) and I did NOT do it their way, I did it MY WAY and PAID for it myself. MY way was a tiny fraction of the cost and has actually been an unnoticeable expense. LOL I am actually saving money from the lifestyle changes. My way was completely non invasive.

Damn I love MY BIKES!!!...and fishing from the row boat or canoe costs ZERO!!!
My truck sits for months sometimes with no need to drive it.
I walk out ice fishing usually, and only drive the sled or my "runnaboat"for fun a few hours a week instead of watching TV, or to go to the family cottage (no roads)

I told the doctors from the start to show me IF they can, or have done better, and I'll do it their way, and they CAN NOT DO THAT!

Shouldice though should have a caveat...
:)
do not try this trick at home.

BTW: U.N.TRUEDOPE just effed us in the a$$ with his immigration policy (see US costs above).

Ophthalmologists earn a gross income of $701,000 in Ontario, and only 25 per cent of them are women. Cardiothoracic surgeons bill an average of $509,000 a year and 11 per cent are women. While 58 per cent of pediatricians are women, they earn an average of 293,000 a year. Psychiatrists gross an average of $238,000 a year, and 58 per cent of them are women.

This is exactly why Paul is against obamacare and the aca.

Any American can just come up to Canada and pay for anything they need healthcare wise.
