The Toronto Transit Commission unveiled its new line of subway trains on Thursday, celebrating a new design meant to be both safer and more reliable.

The new line of trains – dubbed the Toronto Rocket – is expected to roll out in a few weeks.

The cars have more room, can accommodate up to 10 per cent more riders, are more accessible to people with disabilities and will be outfitted with surveillance cameras.

.................

I watched the video on their site CTV Toronto - TTC unveils Toronto's fancy new subway trains - CTV News and can't believe how much rubbish propaganda they're getting (probably) directly from the TTC and Bombardier and 'reporting'. It looks like a 'sell a metro' commercial Bombardier would pitch to one of their customers in Europe.

Not that this matters much, but CTV sounds like they are reading directly from a TTC or Bombardier pamphlet produced by Bombardier transportation (who are actually headquartered now just down the road from me here in Berlin).

*End of rant about CTV's journalistic integrity*

Welcome to the commercialization of Toronto.

It started a while ago, but with a conservative government in power - expect even more news stories brought to you by Gillette.

Forget about the paltry increase in capacity or the $1 Billion price. It's all about the bling now.

Let's face it, the whole thing is simply a PR announcement for TTC and Bombardier, that's why it sounds that way. That's what companies/cities/governments do - a big splash to show what fancy new toys your money buys.

If CTV tried 'reporting' it, they'd never get any of the facts right.

The transit system is a mess here. Getting out of the downtown core is hot, difficult and pushy. Street cars are a nightmare. They need to go. Buses with dedicated lanes would be better than this. As for trains, they need a lot more.
These look nice but I am sure there is going to be huge problems with them and by the looks of it, when there is a problem the whole unit is down instead of just a car.

As for CTV well I've already had my little rant on CTV today so I let it go.

What exactly did you expect? You do realize that not all news is "hard hitting" journalism. Some is just feel good pap. The item on The new TTC cars is exactly that. They are already paid for and are going into service. Now is the time to the people all the goodies they can expect. The time for hard hitting "these are pieces of shyte" news reporting is past.
