I don't think Trump is spending any just doing those tax cuts which is not particularly useful. Trudeau is just wasting money left right and centre giving billions for photo-op projects overseas. And he is increasing taxes and still running a large deficit. Also not particularly useful.

Nobody's going to reduce the debt. Clinton got no credit for eliminating the deficit, and Bush got no blame for increasing it. The message is clear.
