The man accused of killing three women west of Ottawa last month describes himself in a letter as righteous and compares himself to Samson, the heroic biblical figure undone by women and rendered powerless by the loss of his hair.

Basil Borutski’s letter to the Citizen, handwritten at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre, begins with the words, “In God I trust.” The accused, charged with three counts of first-degree murder, made reference to Samson, Jesus and religion, but didn’t mention Anastasia Kuzyk, Nathalie Warmerdam or Carol Culleton — the three women he is alleged to have killed in a one-day rampage through the Ottawa Valley.

The letter came in response to a written request from the Citizen asking Borutski for his side of the story and for an explanation of his anger.
