Trailer Park Boys actress Lucy DeCoutere tweeted Saturday she was resigning from the show, only hours after her colleagues released a statement in support of actor Mike Smith, accused of domestic battery in Hollywood.
"If I find out that somebody is abusive, I cut them out of my life. It's very easy," DeCoutere tweeted earlier Saturday afternoon.
In another tweet, she said her resignation was connected to Smith's arrest.
Smith, 43, plays the character Bubbles on the popular television show that recently made its debut on Netflix with Season 10.

You might remember that Lucy DeCoutere was one of the complainants in the Jian Ghomeshi trial who denied remembering writing emails stating she wanted to F_ck his brains out after he allegedly assaulted her.

Smith and his friend, Georgia Ling, described as the alleged victim, both disputed the charge in the statement.
"At no time did I assault her. I am not guilty of the misdemeanour charged against me," Smith said in the statement.

Show manager Louis Thomas declined an interview about DeCoutere's resignation Saturday afternoon, but said the statement of support represented staff and the Trailer Park Boys three main characters, not all of the cast.
Publicist Shelia Roberts said DeCoutere told the show's producer a few weeks ago that she would not be returning next season. "This does not come as a surprise to us," Roberts said in an email.

Too bad for Bubbles he was funny.. Lucy is leaving because her publicity stunt in the real life court case gets her more lucritive TV and movie roles. Gender equality is changing the equation where Women are always the survivors and Men's rights are being eroded. It's not just about wages anymore. Transition always leads to power stuggles which leads to chaos. We all just have to wait a generation before normality comes back into the equation.

Both Smith and Ling have stated their disappointment on how this was reported.

My guess is that it will amount to nothing and Ricky will get a new girlfriend.

Trailer Park Boys actor Mike Smith has reportedly been charged with sexual assault.

Smith, 53, was charged by Halifax Regional Police on Oct. 2, according to court documents filed in Nova Scotia’s provincial court, per the Globe & Mail.

Smith plays the character Bubbles on the hit Canadian TV show.

The assault is alleged to have happened in December 2017, but the charging documents do not include additional details of the allegations.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

Smith and his lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday, nor did the show’s agent and manager.

Trailer Park Boys Inc., which produces the comedy show, released a statement on Friday that said Smith had stepped away from his role as the managing director of the company.

“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” the statement said. “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”

Smith is due in court on Monday.

According to the documents, he was ordered not to communicate with or visit the home, school or workplace of the alleged victim, whose name is protected by a publication ban.

A person who answered the door at a lakeside house in Dartmouth that is listed in court records confirmed that Smith lives there but declined to comment, per the Globe & Mail.

Trailer Park Boys has been airing since 2001.

Smith’s Bubbles character is known as a loveable guy who wears coke-bottle glasses and lives in a shed with kittens.

Production recently finished on the 13th season with a planned release timed to the show’s 25th anniversary in spring 2026.

Smith was arrested and charged in 2016 with misdemeanor domestic battery in Los Angeles over an alleged incident involving a woman at a Hollywood hotel.

He denied those allegations, describing what happened as a “loud and heated dispute” with a friend.

The public attorney’s office said a month later that it had dropped the charges.
