Opposition MPs are accusing the federal Conservatives of playing childish games and employing bullying tactics to shut down debate at committees and force Parliament into a state of gridlock.

I found out about this from another news source and came here to see if people were discussing it. From the other site:
"We were elected to govern this country and what we've found increasingly over the past few weeks is the combined opposition trying to almost run this as if they're the coalition government," Lukiwski said.
That is irony for you. Looks like the Lukiwski believes a minority government should be treated like a majority.

I don't suppose its occured to him that if his party had something substantial to offer it probably wouldn't get blocked. Besides, it not like the Conservatives are innocent (except for maybe in that "its their fault about Shane Doan" sort of way der Furher is so reliable at).

I'm a CPC member, and I'm not real happy with my party right now.

I sympathize with those thinking of resurrecting the old Reform Party......but that would be, of course, political suicide for the right.

The best that can be said for the CPC right now is that they are still the best of the lot......but a damned sorry lot it is.

Actually, I started to like the Bloc Quebecois after reading their speeches on the mandatory minimum sentences for gun laws. Bill C-10, which I believe is referred to in one of these stories. Their basic argument was that minimum sentences have been shown to increase costs on the legal system, stall the courts, and do not have any effect on the crime rate. The other opposition parties sort of echoed that idea, but I felt the PQ had been the most eloquent.

Honestly, I like minority governments. I like "coalition governments" where democracy and debate must take place. I think we all feel that way, which is why needless political stalling annoys us all. Principled stalling to try to strengthen bills I can understand, such as what is happening in the justice committee with respect to bill C-10.

I also have a serious problem with mandatory minimum sentences, for the reasons listed above and because it limits the flexibility of the justice system. If it is necessary to mandate minimum sentences, doesn't that indicate a failure on the gov't's part when it comes to appointing good judges?
And good judges need to be free to sentence as they see fit.

Amen Colpy...:)

But can Canadians really expect much more...or anything else?

Liberals crossing the floor to become Conservatives....how does a party that reviled the Liberals welcome people to cabinet posts....

How much longer will it be before Canadians awaken to realize that our governments are corrupt regardless of which side of the aisle some particular person may sit?

RCMP...corrupt
CRTC...corrupt
SCIS...corrupt
Liberals....corrupt
Unions, Hollinger, petroleum companies...pet food companies.....it's all gone to Hell and Canadians keep on baaa baaa baaa...being led around by their own ignorance and proclivity to dishonesty.
