Environment Canada issued a tornado watch Wednesday, saying that conditions were favourable for the development of the funnel clouds.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected in most of the areas listed under the watch, but the weather agency warned that isolated tornadoes would be possible.
Officials warned those in the affected areas to be prepared to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
In the event of a tornado, residents are advised to go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents and trailers, a statement from Environment Canada said.
"As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris."
The Burk's Falls-South River, Algonquin Park and Huntsville areas are under a tornado warning, which is an upgrade from a watch. Those in the areas are warned to stay inside until the warning has lifted.
