A storm chaser says a tornado touched down east of Regina, knocking down some farm buildings.

Greg Johnson, a dedicated tornado hunter, was following a late afternoon storm that roared through southern Saskatchewan Tuesday.
He said the twister touched ground for about six or seven minutes on a farm property about 10 kilometres south of the Trans-Canada Highway near Balgonie.

"We watched it rip through a farmyard," Johnson said. "[It] kicked up a lot of debris. We stopped in at the home and fortunately everything was OK. The house was spared but a number of the outbuildings were destroyed."

According to Environment Canada, the tornado touched down south of Balgonie, which is 25 kilometres east of Regina, around 4:55 p.m. CST.

Well no one was hurt, so that's something at least. Lucky that it avoided the home too. Aside from direct injury that's the most devastating thing, having your home destroyed.

Thank goodness. I've already lived through having our home hit by one back in 83 or 84. To this day I can't sleep through a T-storm at night.

I think I could probably sleep through a bombing blitz, I sleep like the dead.

But I hear ya, some memories, no matter how long ago they occurred, can still come back to haunt in second.

We once had a tornado hit up north.... all the residents told of the big bad funnel cloud that ripped up the town. But, no one got pictures, and there was no 'proof' of swirling wind so enviro canada labeled it a 'straight line wind event'. it pisses people off to this day that a town full of witnesses does not count as proof.

Well that's because the resident's mistakenly sought shelter when the tornado approached. The correct procedure is to grab a camera or cell phone and take pictures. That way when environment canada removes your camera or cell phone from your cold dead hands they will have the all important evidence required. They really should do a series of PSAs to educate the public on this.

Best of luck. I call him Cujo. ;)

Ah so it's an east/west thing then. Those kind of problems can be a bitch to resolve. ;)
