Tories losing ground with voters

OTTAWA — The federal Tories have emerged from a controversy-laden winter scarcely ahead of the equally beat-up Liberals as Canadians express insecurity about their children's economic future. The results of a new wide-ranging poll for The Globe and Mail-CTV News finds Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives a scant three percentage points ahead of Stéphane Dion's Liberals, 34 to 31. Mr. Harper's government has fallen from a height of 39 per cent in February, when the party was inching into majority government territory. Moreover, voters in Ontario, a keystone to a potential Conservative majority, are telling their government that it's not doing enough to help them weather turbulent economic waters.

The Tories have also experienced significant erosion among voters in Quebec and among those earning less than $50,000 a year. On the other hand, they have bumped up significantly among those whose household income is greater than $100,000.

Funny, the war in Afghanistan isn't mentioned at all as a reason for losing support. They should have asked me!

Looking at their history of proclaiming during the last election that they are the perfect Government dressed in snow white with out any stains on their camp, I wouldn’t be the list surprised to see that they will do anything behind closed doors to deceive the general populous so they can piss on their votes once again. As long as they don’t steal my pension, as they have done to many government workers. I think it is fair to say that no matter who wins the next General election we are on the way to experience once again a minority Government far better than seeing the phony snow whites pull in a majority. As for Afganistan they are far from claiming any victory there. As for Iraq many Canadians don't know that the Conservatives have send men and women to Iraq to help train other fighters there. All and all the economy will be the nail in the coffin for the cheating Cons.

Here is another reason why Canadians should pay close attention to the economy. When the economy is weak the government will get better value spending $20B ON THE ECONOMY INSTEAD OF BUYING GUNS.

How I hate this dithering in billions! First one figure then another one, then both figures mean different things. :-? Can they not present us with a clearcut accounting list? Also tell us where they intend to take the extra money from? Are we going deeper into debt over this? And finally, who do they think is going to threaten or attack us that we need all these fast depreciating war toys? Whom are we going to fend off with this expense? The Russians?? We might as well capitulate before any blood is shed.
Or the Americans?? That's laughable, since they are our bedfellows!!
Oh, perhaps China will come and get us!!!8O

Seriously, it's "the boys" in the toy store! They had a toy-deprived childhood! Now they can catch up in a big way with OUR money!!!

STOP them, Socrates!!!

There have been several polls over the last 2 years indicating that the difference between the Conservatives and Liberals is almost too close to call...that is one of the reasons we haven't had an election yet.

I don't think the Conservatives are going to be able to break through to a majority with Harper at the helm, too much residual Alliance branding. It also appears that people aren't warming to Dion (how many times can the Opposition declare a bill "bad for Canada but not bad enough to call an election over" before we have so many "bad bills" that the country is ruined...at least from the Opposition's perspective?).

It would be interesting to see what would happen with a former PC as the leader of the Conservatives and a new face in the Liberal leadership.

Time will tell.

Come election time I will do my part with the stroke of that little pencil they give us in the voting booth….. plus I will bring my own pen so my vote will not be tampered with knowing these snow white losers are so desperate after seeing the scam in attempting to make voters who do not vote for these losers to pay for the extra election costs…...

Yes I agree, it is fact being both leaders Harper and Dion don’t really fit their position in charisma, while Harper has bagage of the Alliace branding we see two leaders with no political fortitude.
These two are the reason we have not seen an election yet especially with bills that should have been stopped and yet the Liberals knowing their handicap (Mr. Dion) did not have the fortitude to call a non confidents vote and trigger an election. Bob Ray is an articulate politician with great qualifications behind him even though he has deep NDP roots; he would be able to help rejuvenate the Liberals to a majority mandate. Michael Ignatieff, who seems to have moved to the Liberal front lines from out of the mists, is "a well-known author, broadcaster and scholar". If he comes off a bit like royalty, he originates from royalty in Russian circles. Canada needs a strong Government not a bunch of thieves and closet bigots worst then the Libs.

I don’t have a problem with a political group who are sincere and out to do the best they can for the country. But I am totally opposed to closet bigots and losers who through rocks on glass houses while they live in one.

Guess what? The economy is the guns.

No you are wrong things have changed dramaticly;
Guess what; with the up coming food shortages around the world and one should not think that Canada will be exempt, I am sure a round of 100 bullets will feed a family up well.

Yes, they should!! If we all would not vote for them next time, they won't have any teeth left!

In 1993 the Tories lost most of their teeth' they were left with only 2 teeth. Man that was painfull. They could not eat properly for 13 years. Most of us remember those days. So humiliating.

I got a hot item in my mouse, and I'll drop it right here... bringing this thread back up to the top.

Anatomy of a scandal: The downfall of Maxime Bernier
Maxime Bernier's term as foreign affairs minister ended Monday with a 130-word letter of resignation to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
"This is to inform you that I am resigning my post as Minister of Foreign Affairs, effective immediately," he wrote. "I informed you late this afternoon that last night I became aware that I had left behind classified government documents at a private residence.
"Prime Minister, the security breach that occurred was my fault and my fault alone and I take full responsibility for my actions."

One down!!! :canada:
Was he also the one who messed up the promise of a supply plane for Burma? Ignatieff raised a fuss over that. I'm not sure if it was Bernier or someone else.

What is so strange about this is that Bernier must have been going to work with his Government documents and mid way he decided to stop over for a nooner got very exited after a session with such a voluptuous chick if you know what I mean and the rest became to be a resignation. As for the Hercules plane offered to Burma as far as I know it was him.

Canada offered the DART, disaster assistance response team, and a plane load of relief supplies. The DART was refused and the supplies were delivered to Bangkok Thailand and were then distributed in Burma (Myanmar?) by the Red Cross.
The only way those supplies could be delivered directly to Burma would be by force and the removal of the military regime. (Who ya gonna call?)
