Emergency ongoing in Far North
The First Nation communities of Attawapiskat and Kashechewan are still in a state of emergency.
Some frail and elderly have been flown out of Attawapiskat First Nation, while a partial evacuation got underway on Wednesday in Kashechewan First Nation.
About 200 people were flown from Kashechewan to Kapuskasing, as the temperature was expected to drop below zero Wednesday.
Kashechewan Chief Derek Stephen said the decision was made to airlift all 200 people affected by the flooding to an emergency shelter.
Residents began boarding flights on Wednesday morning.
Kapuskasing Mayor Al Spacek said the town is doing its best to accommodate the evacuees.
