Har!

On Wednesday morning, The Globe flared (top of the front page) an exclusive story by Adrian Morrow with the headline “Ontario paid $1-million to teachers’ union.”

That was followed the next day by a second story: “Multiple payouts given to teacher unions” which added another $1.5-million in payouts to teachers unions to cover their bargaining costs. Followed by one more: “Ontario never sought receipts before paying teacher unions.”

I heard from a number of readers on Twitter and by e-mail who were suspicious of the timing of this story and wondered whether The Globe held it back.

more media party justification

just pay the money and move on. Unions are worth it. The public really put their foot in their mouths when they started to complain that teachers get two months off in the summer and lots of teachers days. When the public wanted to extend the school year and get the teachers to work more that is when they found out that teachers were giving more volunteer of their personal time for work. Now the public will have to pay more unless they make teachers an essential service and make strikes a history issue.

Oddly enough the Ontario Teachers Union is itself anti union. When their pension plan bought majority interest in Timberwest one of their first moves was to eliminate the unionized sawmills and export most of the timber off their private lands. Next came firing ALL the union loggers and going strictly to contract loggers.
