The Wages Of The Elite

Lots of money is flowing in the high ranking public service or more specific heads of departments of Ontario where they demand unions to cut their wages because of the downturn economy meanwhile their wages go higher and as CDNBear always says on many of his posts “show me the link” The Sunshine List of Ontario public sector employees that make more than $100,000 a year. Public Sector Salary Disclosure 2012 (Disclosure for 2011)

Now there is some people make that make $100K a year by working overtime at time and a half to double time like a TTC ticket collector be working double shifts most of the year and some police officers that are forced to work overtime because of accidents and other events beyond their control.

Department heads or upper management work their regular shifts and go home while getting their $50.00 an hour or more and this is not counting their lucrative budgets

Happens in all public areas. Just look at the municipal wages. Or school boards. Way too many parasites making well over 100g a year. This is why 60% of program spending in most ministries is eaten up in administration.

Pretty insane, most ontario hydro peeps are closer to 200 grand a year.
The top salary in the elk valley coal mines for top level management is probably not even close.

Atrocious! If this sort of thing keeps up a few public servants might actually reach levels equivalent to one-tenth of the salaries of of lower level executives in the corporate sector. Or even (heaven forbid) the equivalent of 2% of the salaries paid to NHL players.

And wasn't the growth of public sector unions and wages encouraged under the Trudeau governments?

One could easily make the argument... But just for fun, let's compare that growth to the relative economy(s) of the time.

... And exactly what amount of personal finances does the public sector invest into new and untested ventures?

You gotta pay to play buddy... Don't expect the piper to play your tune if you aren't willing to pay.

While we are all pondering the huge salaries let us look at other things that play hell with
the family budget. Management is over paid, in both the private and public sector.
There is good and bad with this. If we all have people working for low wages the people
pay more for their taxes because low wages means lower tax rates for those people.
In addition, the rich don't pay either because they have tax shelters to tuck their profits
away. For example if you make money on the market from investing in say a gold mine
that pays off. You make a strike on the market for two hundred grand in profit, and yet
you pay on one hundred grand.
Going shopping for kids cloths? All those sport and celebrity figures that endorse brands,
make millions playing games and even more millions saying the shoes you bought are the
best. And we pay and say nothing, we watch as the highest ranked people in government
make huge salaries and say nothing. I am not defending all public sector wages, but I think
if we are paying for endorsements at the till we should be having something to say about
paying for nothing. I guess we do in that we don't have to buy the products but its part of
the market.
As a society we have to have a national discussion about who gets what and who is supposed
to pay what share of the pie. Until then we will complain and the workers will pay the price
while the people making the money over and above their share will go on making the money
they always make.

I have no idea. But a great of high tech scientific study especially in the field of medicine is government financed. How about you tell me how much a privileged athlete invests into the economy? Or better yet explain how much a money trader or junk bond seller helps the economy. Or perhaps you could describe the huge number of jobs created by the executives at Goldman-Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Fannie Mae.
