Oh my this thread has turned into a "my stick is bigger than yours"....

Pitting the allied forces of historic friendship at a competition of skill when the graves at Normandy weep for all of you....graves of those whose lives were lost in brotherhood and comradeship for the high price of freedom.... where the humble French groom the graves with small knives on their hands and knees...where the tiny crosses face the homelands with the names lovingly engraved when names are known...

To add to your little grim Shadenfreude - all you Brits and Canucks - not to mock the wonderful nation of the U.S.A. but to prove yet again we are not ashamed of what this country has done and will do again in the future - for your benefit as well as our own...

Your censorship is not done with care or concern but with mocking and spite. We know you for what you are. Continue to remind the U.S.military they came "late to your World Wars" - adding yet more burden and guilt for their participation which was not their choice.

Makes me wonder what is expected - and yet I don't really care.

War price on U.S. lives equal to 9/11 By CALVIN WOODWARD, Associated Press Writer
57 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Now the death toll is 9/11 times two. U.S. military deaths from Iraq and Afghanistan now match those of the most devastating terrorist attack in America's history, the trigger for what came next. Add casualties from chasing terrorists elsewhere in the world, and the total has passed the Sept. 11 figure.

The latest milestone for a country at war comes without commemoration. It also may well come without the precision of knowing who is the 2,973rd man or woman of arms to die in conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan, or just when it happens. The terrorist attacks killed 2,973 victims in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

Not for the first time, war that was started to answer death has resulted in at least as much death for the country that was first attacked, quite apart from the higher numbers of enemy and civilians killed, too.

Historians note that this grim accounting is not how the success or failure of warfare is measured, and that the reasons for conflict are broader than what served as the spark.

The body count from World War II was far higher for Allied troops than for the crushed Axis. Americans lost more men in each of a succession of Pacific battles than the 2,390 people who died at Pearl Harbor in the attack that made the U.S. declare war on Japan. The U.S. lost 405,399 in the theaters of World War II.

Despite a death toll that pales next to that of the great wars, one casualty milestone after another has been observed and reflected upon this time, especially in Iraq.

There was the benchmark of seeing more U.S. troops die in the occupation than in the swift and successful invasion. And the benchmarks of 1,000 dead, 2,000, 2,500.

Now this.

"There's never a good war but if the war's going well and the overall mission remains powerful, these numbers are not what people are focusing on," said Julian Zelizer, a political historian at Boston University. "If this becomes the subject, then something's gone wrong."

Beyond the tribulations of the moment and the now-rampant doubts about the justification and course of the Iraq war, Zelizer said Americans have lost firsthand knowledge of the costs of war that existed keenly up to the 1960s, when people remembered two world wars and Korea, and faced Vietnam.

"A kind of numbness comes from that," he said. "We're not that country anymore — more bothered, more nervous. This isn't a country that's used to ground wars anymore."

Almost 10 times more Americans have died in Iraq than in Afghanistan, where U.S. casualties have been remarkably light by any historical standard, although climbing in recent months in the face of a resurgent Taliban.

As of Friday, the U.S. death toll stood at 2,693 in the Iraq war and 278 in and around Afghanistan, for a total of 2,971, two short of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Pentagon reports 56 military deaths and one civilian Defense Department death in other parts of the world from Operation Enduring Freedom, the anti-terrorism war distinct from Iraq. Altogether, 3,028 have died abroad since Sept. 11, 2001.

The latest identified by the armed forces:

• Army 2nd Lt. Emily J.T. Perez, 23, Fort Washington, Md., who died Sept. 12 in Kifl, Iraq, from an explosive device detonated near her vehicle. A former high school sprinter who sang in her West Point gospel choir, she was assigned to the 204th Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

• Marine Sgt. Christopher M. Zimmerman, 28, Stephenville, Texas, killed Wednesday in Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

A new study on the war dead and where they come from suggests that the notion of "rich man's war, poor man's fight" has become a little truer over time.

Among the Americans killed in the Iraq war, 34 percent have come from communities reporting the lowest levels of family income. Half have come from middle income communities and only 17 percent from the highest income level.

That's a change from World War II, when all income groups were represented about equally. In Korea, Vietnam and Iraq, the poor have made up a progressively larger share of casualties, by this analysis.

Eye-for-an-eye vengeance was not the sole motivator for what happened after the 2001 attacks any more than Pearl Harbor alone was responsible for all that followed. But Pearl Harbor caught the U.S. in the middle of mobilization, debate, rising tensions with looming enemies and a European war already in progress. Historians doubt anyone paid much attention to sad milestones once America threw itself into the fight.

In contrast, the United States had no war intentions against anyone on Sept. 10, 2001. One bloody day later, it did.

Sleep the good sleep dear warriors. Your work is done.

LOL...Seems to me like if you guys were that darn good or as YOU say BETTER than the U.S. four fierce fighting regiman's, there would actually be LESS body bags because of all that EXTENSIVE and prolonged training would have helped them  ........I dunno, just a guess............

I said it before and I'll say it again, people in Canada need to stop trying to stick your noses up at US. We are all supposed to be fighting terror TOGETHER..not bragging like a five year old over whose army is better....get a life..... :p

Training has nothing to do with a guy on a bike coming and blwoing himself up, 6 of our Deaths thus far are Friendly Fire from American airplanes. As for us having more of a chance of dieing, lets take a look at the articale buddy....If you read it you will see its because we are the ones in the most dangerous spots, thats what the articale is about, its because we are the ones pushing through the rough spots at the moment. When we were based in Kabul, we only lost soldiers to Americans....

1812? Ever hear of hat, Iam going to go ahead and Guess not. Thats a War where The Canadian Millita and A hand full of British and Native warroris defeated the American Army, who were trying to invade Canada.

World War one...1917 is when the Yankees Joined in. The war actully if you knew this or not was 1914 to 1918 The Americans Made is for one year, once all of the work was done By mostly Canadas Army, Taking many Battles that France, and Britan both could not win and Canad was also Involved in evry Magjor battle that took place, and offten completed its Objectives when other British and French Units did not. The Americans made it for the last year and did not fight any decive battles.

World War 2 Now I know you may be surprised by this, But it actully started in 1939....I know you might be shocked, But Canada was in it fromt he Begining, now there wasnt much fighting for Canada untill 42 but none the less we were ready for it and didnt have our heads in the clouds waiting for the Japs or Germans to make the first move.

Korea, we were in that, and had a few Decive battles. No we dint go to Vietnam. But we were glad we didnt, We have been to Cyprus, the Balkens and Rawanda, Somilia and many other war zones. We have not yet to be in a War we have lost. We possibly have th eBest War history in the Western World. Not to Mention we were in the Boar War too, Iam sure you don even know about that one.

Also recently Canada has Lead and Completed a Operation in Afganistan which has demolished the Taliban down to Half its Size, and this was coming from an Americna General James Jones, Thanking Canada. Hmmm

As for your comment in not needing longer Basic Training, Thats the stupidest shit I Have ever heard....

Where is Mogz WHEN we need him.

Are you attempting to say that there is evil in the heart of all muslims? I think you might find that is a very foolish thing to say.

The image was very emotive I admit and it's terrible that such things happen, especially in the name of religion. But blanket statements of hatred will not get us anywhere.
No, I meant to say that "every TRUE muslim", meaning, those who believe in intolerance and terror towards other people, non muslim. Today's world of muslim is excatly how is said, every true muslim believes in this, whether you like it or not.
You know the best remedy to stop this Chaos - bann the religion, full stop. This religion (today) is not about God, it's about Satan.

YOu yourself maynot feel that way PERSONALLY but please don't act like it's my 'imagination" that no one here that I have seen thus far has any respect for our people or plight, let alone our SOLDIERS....

Hey, Ididn't start the argument with Sassie, SHE did....if you or her thinks I am just going to come in here like the " unintelligent peabrain" they seem to think all Americans are; I am..sorry...I respect those who respect me...and so far...I have seen very few "respectful" post towards American people in general...Talk about my president! He is an idiot! Talk about my government. They are lost idiots who hide behind religion..but DO NOT
generalize our good people, who have lost jobs to feed their own families on account of taking care of everyone else's problems and people.....

I have always prided myself on being an open minded person, but these "personal" insults against Americans is just stifling and a little too ridiculous..especially pitting the U.S. military against the Canadian military...how childish and unintelligent. The bottom line is that the terrorist haven't attacked Canada not on the basis of their "strong" military, but soley on the fact that they are too close to the U.S. and the the U.S. wouldn't stand for it...go figure....we are aways getting crapped on by so called "friends"....
