Liberals launch 'Real Doug Ford' ad campaign ahead of election

Ontario's Liberals are launching their first campaign ad ahead of the spring election, saying it aims to reveal the "real Doug Ford."

The ad, which will air online, on television and radio starting Monday, says the Progressive Conservative leader would lower corporate taxes while rolling back minimum wage and cutting 40,000 public sector jobs.

Senior campaign officials say they want to highlight how a Ford government would affect Ontario residents rather than simply focusing on his personality — though future ads will feature controversial statements the Tory leader has made in the past.

Liberal campaign co-chair Deb Matthews says the party's research has shown many voters don't know much about Ford, a newcomer to provincial politics.

She says the former Toronto city councillor has made a point to avoid scrutiny and has publicly said little about his plans for the province.

Ford's campaign has not committed to releasing a fully costed platform ahead of the June 7 vote, as he had initially promised, saying only that he would present his policy priorities.

1- Lower taxes is a good thing

2- Minimum wage should be $0 because that's what some people are worth, everyone else can negotiate

3- 40,000 government employees losing their jobs is not a bad start but we can do better.

1- Lower taxes is a good thing

Adequate taxes for acceptable levels of service are good.

2- Minimum wage should be $0 because that's what some people are worth, everyone else can negotiate

Go live in Bangladesh or some other third world country if that's what you want.

3- 40,000 government employees losing their jobs is not a bad start but we can do better.

The reason people like you have zero credibility is that you seem unable to put the horse before cart. The simple reality (that you seem oblivious to) is that the vast majority of Canadians want government services. If you propose to let all the civil servants go, you need to explain how you'll provide services. Otherwise, you're just a rambling fool.

1- Lower taxes is a good thing

With the tepid GDP growth and recession that Harper gave us, it's clearly not.

2- Minimum wage should be $0 because that's what some people are worth, everyone else can negotiate

That's just something assinine conservatives say.

3- 40,000 government employees losing their jobs is not a bad start but we can do better.

Cutting service jobs isn't a message that resonates with real people.

Absolutely! What we have is though incredibly high taxes with a lack of service due to insane bureaucracy and overpaid govt employees. I'm ok with the local fire chief having a pick-up that runs, not one worth $100k

The market is self regulating. A union employee who made $20/hr with a $10 minimum wage demands $30/hr with a $15 minimum wage and the price of everything goes up exponentially meaning your $15 buys less than it did before.

I think most Canadians would rather have more of their own money and decide how its best spent. If you put a 10% flat tax on everyone and reduced the government to essential services only with a balanced budget most people would be happy to look after the rest for themselves. The problem is big expensive government has trained a generation to be provided for instead of providing for themselves and their families.

Hi I'm Mike Harris and I killed 7 Canadians (not including the Dudley George thing)

You probably don't remember much about me, but I had a thing called "the Common Sense Revolution" where I privatized a bunch of things that had no business being private and cut funding to education and other vital spending in order to create a phony prosperity that stupid people ( my base) ate up like ice cream.

Sold the cash-cow 407 to foreigners for peanuts ...

Sold the cash-cow 407 to foreigners for peanuts ...

I ran the 407 a time or two and I wouldn't call it a cash cow. More like a deserted turnpike.

Their pay system is ridiculous. Photo. I remember them calling my oldest son and said he had unpaid fees. He claimed to have only used the 407 twice and that was two years prior to the charge.
They insisted and he told them to pull the photo of the plate and check it.
When asked why he was so confident, he said, "Because I was in Afghanistan when you say I was on the 407." They pulled the photo. Apparently they read it wrong.
That happens a lot, I had to get them to pull a photo for our car too, as did a few friends.
Maybe that's why they don't get the numbers that a regular turnpike does.

And about, Doug Ford. The Real Doug Ford Revealed?
He will be the next Premier of Ontario if he can stay out of trouble.

That's funny. I love how people that have absolutely no clue of how government works, seem to think they're experts.

FYI, my pickup (brand new) cost $23,000. I can drive it for a year and the munipality can sell it for what they paid for it. No maintenance costs whatsoever.

Only an incompetent bureaucrat would buy "a truck that runs" and spend money on maintenance.

The market is self regulating.

Only in places with no regulation. Mexico or Somalia are good examples. Good luck getting many people living in Canada or the US to embrace that lifestyle.

I think most Canadians would rather have more of their own money and decide how its best spent.

I'm sure they do... until they want something that they can't afford. Then they look to the gubmint.

Given they can't stand on their own record, attack ads are the way to go.

Not sure about their success. Ask Mr. Harper on how effective the ones against Justine were.
