The Queen is to visit Ground Zero in New York next month during an eight-day stay in the US.

Whilst there, she will also give her first address to the 192 members of the United Nations General Assembly since 1957.

The monarch will also visit Wimbledon this summer for the first time since 1977 - the last time a British player won the senior singles tournament.

The Queen will visit Ground Zero next month, it was revealed yesterday.

Her Majesty, 84, will tour the site of the 9/11 bombings in New York as part of an eight-day stay. She will also give her first address to the 192 members of the United Nations General Assembly since 1957.

It is shaping up to be a busy summer for the Queen. She is due to attend Wimbledon on June 24 for the first time since 1977 - when Virginia Wade won the women's singles.

It also emerged that Prince Philip, who is 89 today, had minor surgery on his hand to alleviate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome which causes pain and numbness.

He was admitted as a day patient to an undisclosed hospital on Monday.

Philip will not travel with the Queen to Crewe tomorrow, but is expected to visit the Olympic Park in east London on Friday.

We all have to be somewhere at some time. I'll likely be somewhere useful; like my garden, for instance.
