Hmmmm….CSIS found Qiu has several positions as a visiting professor with Chinese institutions, but would leave those positions off her CV when applying for jobs within Canada. It found in interviews about all of this Qiu repeatedly lied even as she was given every opportunity to come clean.

Hmmmm….CSIS was also critical of Cheng, finding that he must have been aware of his wife’s subterfuge and found that he had also likely applied to one of the Chinese government’s talent programs. They found he too lied during interviews with CSIS.

Hmmmm…. Because of openness and transparency, because it’s 2015-ish!!!

CSIS discovered Qiu had applied for and likely received a position under China’s Thousand Talents Program, a government sponsored program to recruit Chinese experts, which also allows them to keep jobs in Western countries.

Qiu’s position came through the Wuhan Institute of Virology and CSIS determined that the Thousand Talents Program offers researchers up to $1 million in research subsidies and better access to visas and Chinese health care.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service determined that one of two scientists fired from Canada’s most secure microbiology lab worked closely and covertly with Chinese government labs and collaborated with “institutions whose goals have potentially lethal military applications.”

Whoopsies!!

On Wednesday, the government released hundreds of pages related to the firing of Xiangguo Qiu and her husband Keding Cheng from the national microbiology lab in Winnipeg. The pair were escorted out of the lab in 2019 and fired in 2021.

The hundreds of pages of documents include CSIS assessments created after the pair were marched out of the labs. The spy agency recommended the Public Health Agency of Canada revoke the security clearances of both scientists.
Next weeks Scandal will have to be a doozy to bury this one under another scandal, etc…
Oh boy!!

Liberal and NDP MPs joined forces Monday to block a parliamentary investigation into the massive security breach at Canada’s high-security infectious-disease laboratory in Winnipeg??? Really?? Again?

Conservative foreign affairs critic Michael Chong had moved a motion to investigate how Xiangguo Qiu and her husband, Keding Cheng, were able to pass confidential information to China even after security concerns were raised about the couple’s activities.

“The People’s Republic of China and its entities infiltrated Canada’s top microbiology lab, a national-security breach representing a very serious and credible threat to Canada,” Mr. Chong said, noting the Liberal government had fought for years to stop the opposition parties from finding out why the two scientists were fired and whether there were serious security breaches at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg.
“The government defied four orders of the House of Commons and its committee for these documents,” Mr. Chong told the House of Commons Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics. “After three long years, we finally have gotten access to the documents and we need to continue this examination in order to hold the government accountable.”

But Liberal Iqra Khalid moved an immediate motion to adjourn the committee hearings, effectively killing the proposed parliamentary investigation. She was supported by her Liberal colleagues and NDP MP Matthew Green to shut down an investigation.

Mr. Green later said that the NDP are not against holding a parliamentary inquiry into the security breaches…but??? 😉

“New Democrats believe the study on the security breach at Canada’s high security infectious disease laboratory in Winnipeg should happen at the Canada-China Committee, that’s the appropriate committee to investigate this mess,” he said in a statement. “New Democrats will continue the necessary work for accountability and transparency in this file.” ??? What???

How is it that the government can simply ignore the requests from Parliament? How can this stand? Parliament represents the people of Canada & is the government not supposed to answer to us? Are there any repercussions to what they're doing other than at the voting booth?

As Canadians, we obviously need to start watching what is happening in Ottawa because it's become quite corrupt, especially in the past 8 years.

Currently, the Liberals & NDP together have more than 170 seats in Parliament.
