It's been happening since the beginning of time, but what is it, and who is in it? I was watching a video of Hastings Street in Vancouver, and I was shocked at the amount of drug-addicted people there are on a city block. I used to hang out there occasionally as a kid. They aren't hard to spot; they are either horizontal on the ground in front of someone's business, or they are stumbling along like The Walking Dead. It is surreal watching the state of deterioration these new drugs produce. Circling the block on scooters are the poisoners of these people. Drug dealers feed the habit, killing them one hit at a time until they will eventually overdose and die. Our government is in the murder business because it has normalized this behavior under the guise of harm reduction. They are feeding the poison to these people.
In Sweden, they have a Harm Reduction program. They give drugs to drug addicts so they will have a safe supply and don’t die from fentanyl-laced meth or crack. It is very successful. The number of overdoses dropped drastically, and the success rate of addict recovery increased as well. In contrast the Canadian Harm Reduction Program appears to be creating a society of drug addicts. A street hospice to the walking dead, where the angels of death ride around the swarm of misery on scooters day to day, killing people for money. The question is, “Why has Sweden seen success, while Canada seems to be creating more drug addicts and homeless?”
To get in on the Swedish program of Harm Reduction and Drug Replacement, health officials insist on mandatory rehabilitation. If you don't sign up for the program, you don't get the drug replacement or the harm reduction program. You’re on your own. They also have the infrastructure in place to treat people. Our mental health, and addiction recovery programs are almost nonexistent and if you can find a rehab that will take you, you’re probably going on a six to eight week waiting list. If you show up high, you will be turned away. If we truly want to help people, we either need to invest the money in a working model like Sweden or we need do something different. At this point we are enabling and creating a society of the walking dead, and as I write they die and will continue do so.
We need to fix this.
