Clinton was impeached because he lied under oath, not because of a blow job.

Clinton was impeached because the Republicans spent eight years trying everything possible to discredit him. He never should have been asked about the blow job. That he was shows that the narrow-minded, puritanical witch hunt that the Republicans were partaking in went way too far.

I agree, but nevertheless, what I said still stands, he lied under oath and was impeached because of it. He was pressured into it, but the idiot lied anyway.

Cheney will likely go down before Bush, ITN. He's like Spiro Agnew, but far greedier. Rumsfeld is likely in trouble too.

These men could be facing criminal charges. You remember Watergate? The possible charges here are much more serious. Treason. Lying to start a war. This is no politically motivated break in, these are high crimes.

ordinarily this would make sense.......but suspect it might be a lot more convoluted than that by now. The variables involved are humongous. Involves international laws too....albeit on a different level.

The impeachment process does not involve International laws. My guess would be is that the Democrats either HAVE the proof (if it exists) and are waiting for the 2006 November elections to pounce OR they have nothing and are hoping the political turmoil will be enough to sway Americans for the 2006 election so they can at least take back the Senate.

That's my guess, personally, I think he lied and sent thousands Americans to their deaths. He should be charged with treason. (IMHO)

If Cheney goes first, a new VP will be appointed and they will become President. That's basically how Ford got the gig, although Agnew's crimes were not related to Nixon's.

If Cheney, Bush, Rummy and (skank for me) Condi all get hauled in at once, the President pro tempore of the Senate would become king...er...President. I wonder if there would be a back room political deal if Rummy and Condi weren't hauled in though?

If a grand jury or Senate investigative committee finds that they purposely misled the country about Iraq and that Plame was outed for political reasons (that can be just be negligence to) they can face criminal charges.

The political damage being done by them right now is huge. It's hurting Republicans in both houses and they already had their own problems due to the criminality of Delay and Frist. Moderate Republicans were already shying away from tax cuts for the rich while social programs got cut to the bone too.

I think that after 2006, there will Democrat majorities looking to impeach Bush. That's got some politics behind it too...it will wipe the Republicans out in the 2008 Presidential race as well, if Bush hasn't managed that already.

from a legal stance......a lot might hinge on the words "purposely"........as in intentionally. But they should be able to get the data to prove this. Goes to motivation too, one would think.

Personally, I doubt that there will ever be an impeachment of another Republican president, while the Republican’s control the House and the Senate.

What I see as being more likely to happen, is that Special Prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, will file indictments against the cabal, and as their house of cards falls, the small rats will start ratting out the bigger rats, until all the guilty are implicated.

In that case, any Republican in office with hopes of being reelected would put great pressure upon Bush (and any guilty henchmen) to step down before impeachment — like Richard Nixon did.

In that case, it would be the speed and the integrity of the case which the Special Prosecutor builds that would influence the speed of Bush's departure.
