RE: The Gun Registry Must
I'm currently going through the process to acquire a handgun. First I have to pass the Canadian Firearms Safety Course exam for non-restricted guns (read rifles and shotguns). Then I'll have to pass the exam for restricted guns (read handguns). Then I have to round up two people who have known me for three years and think it's OK for me to have a weapon, and someone else to sign a photo of me, and the fees of course, and then wait 45 days, and then pay the nice man at the gun shop just over $1,000. After which I'll be the proud owner of a Steyr M9.
It's clear, reading through the Canadian Firearms Safety Course Student Handbook the authors would be _much_ happier if I'd just forget the whole thing. Guns, oh, so nasty, is the tone.
As a teenager in Toronto (well, Downsview actually), I had two guns, a Mossberg 140B with adjustable peep sights and a Lee Enfield Mark 5 (the Burma gun). Right on my wall in my bedroom. Shocking.
I haven't had one since, but now I'm 64 and it's time to have a firearm again. I'm not happy with the attitude of the authorities, but at least it's not as bad as Britain (no handguns).
I have some other thoughts on this, but I think this is enough for now.
