There were some strange events that happened over the years, I remember one such case, it was in a town about two hundred miles from where I was in the north and during the Christmas break, this young lady who was a baby sitter claimed she was raped by the man of the house while the rest of the family was away, The man claimed he wasn't even at the house that night due to a storm that left him trapped at a strangers house just outside of town. Anyway the young lady said she remembered the time was about ll:30pm because the station signed off and the queen played at sign off in those days. Well this friend of mine kept thinking there was something wrong with that, so she started going over all the old station logs, and there it was, the queen didn't play that night until 4am because the staff person played movies, because he was snowed in anyway. I was finally determined that the man of the house was in fact not there due to the same storm,

In the old days there was a lot more fun, as radio personalities were more involved with their audience, now its commericals and six in a row music. For me after three decades, I couldn't wait to move on, anyway Im a farmer now and thats a long way from radio or TV

Re Sam's Closing; kinda fitting that this happened as when they first came to our town, they put our two local stores out of business.

When I first started school I had to work because I had no money and no scholarships and didn't want to float a loan at that point....preferring to buy a beast of a car to get me around.... so I took a job at a combo TV/AM station.... working all nite. During those years the TV station signed off but the AM stayed on and I was able to listen to stay awake.

Amazing places at night - like working in a tomb but always something going on. It was nice because when I got my own work done I was allowed to do school work and cover phones and emergency stuff so other day people could relax....

Most of the staff came to my graduation - knowing they all had a part in my getting through the first four years....

Ya you are right the grave yard shift was the most fun when I think back on it, and over the years somehow it became my job to get the new folks started and ready to move up the ladder, so even after I no longer did the all nighter I often found myself being in the building late at night and sometimes I wished I could just go back and do that shift again, but it never happened.
The media journey took me to a lot of places over the years and I developed a different view as to how people thought and the difference between how they felt and what they thought and believe me there is a difference

People are more real at night than they behave in daytime hours.

I was always ripped in two when I encountered the first few 'day' people after pulling a night shift... they seemed so flashy, phony and full of themselves....

Night workers give that away pretty quick.... like it's useless stuff to pack around.

Maybe daylight and sunshine does things to our need to preen and prance around... but I really like night people best.... even though my life is stuck in daytime now...
