Taking notes of who called could be part of your day.

That would be useless if that person needs a call that day.

He gets the info instantly, without disrupting his admin's work to take my call, or interrupting whatever he's up to because I called. He's taking texts all day long anyway because that's how his guys keep in touch with him as well, so boom, no muss no fuss, instant update.

And it takes nothing away from our evenings together.

Well I use text messages a lot! They don't disrupt my communication with people, they augment it. I get the standard complaint of the "kids always burying their face in texts" but honestly, my generation, it was the "kids were always on the damn phone". Bottom line is, like email, it's damned handy and I actually prefer to communicate in a text/email environment because I'm a very visual person. The minute I get on the phone with somebody I'm guaranteed to forget something.

Even when somebody has to say something twice because people are zoned out texting in the middle of a conversation?

I don't text in the middle of a face to face conversation! Most of the people I speak to aren't that rude either. For those that encounter that frequently, maybe they need a better class of friends.

The death of grammar began long before the advent of texting. It started with its elimation as a structured discipline in grade school in the 1960s. Which is why most people now cannot parse a sentence or name its individual elements.. or name and conjugate verbs. People can move into the highest levels of education.. and can only write by way of gut feel.. that it sounds correct.

There's no accounting for rude people. That doesn't make it the technology that's to blame. Have some accountability for your own actions.
