A Baytown mother fought back – and won – when an armed robber threatened her and her two young sons, according to police. Dorothy Baker was just driving home from CVS with her sons, ages 5 and 2, when a man crept up from the third row of their minivan with a knife.

He demanded money.

“So I asked him how much he needed and he said $200,” Baker said. “And I told him I didn’t have that kind of cash, I had about $20 in my account, and he said I better figure out a way to get it, or my kids were going to get hurt.”

Thinking fast and acting even faster, the mother of six ignored his request at one point to make a turn.

She said he then leaped up to the front row and realized she had dialed 911 on her cell phone. Instinct took over and she was able to rip the knife out of his hand.

She said she then pushed him to the passenger seat and punched him in the face, all while they were still moving.

“And I told him to get the hell out of my car,” she said. “And he said ‘fine.’ He got out and started running and the next thing I thought was if he gets away he can do this to somebody else.”

So she pursued him.

“He kind of ‘zagged’ and I turned, intending to clip him in the side or something to get him to stop,” she said. “And I ended up running completely over him.”

Yeehaw...don't you just love vigilante justice. We should shut down the courts.
no it's not about that, she was much weaker than him and managed to survive...SHE did not seek him out, he sought her out and lost...oops.

I have no problem harming someone who seeks to harm me and if i get a little carried away due to fear, whose fault is that? they should not have induced that fear in me to begin with and they would be hale and healthy

if I had a gun in my hand and someone attacked me, I would empty it...

and I am a pacifist for the most part... and anti-gun...

She followed him and used her car, you can use only the amount of violence required to make a citizens arrest. I guess you could say she ran the crime down to it conclusion.

Technically assault with a deadly weapon, but if I were the DA, I think I'd exercise a little prosecutorial discretion
plus she would not have been in her right mind as he had threatened her children...fear does funny things to us

Everything up to the car chase was self defence. Technically once he was out of the car, what she did was assault.

A defence lawyer would argue temporary insanity (not thinking rationally due to the ordeal). But I don't think any DA would see this as a crime which would get a good result in trial (Most DAs are conscious of their stats) so would get passed over/dropped.

So long as she sticks to her story that she meant to knock him down and hold him for police, she'll be fine.

What might mess her up is if she ever admits she meant to run him over while he was fleeing.
