Tesla completes the 100 megawatt battery in 60 days. He said if it took over 100 days Australia could have it for free.

Australia now has a lithium ion battery hooked to a wind farm that stores enough energy to power 30,000 homes for an hour. It will be used to stabilize the grid, providing instant backup to any size demand.

I have priced out whole home generators that are hooked into your power panel and switch on when the power goes out. A large Tesla battery would be so much better.

I believe in the future all homes will be self powered and require no electrical grid at all. The days of generating massive amounts of power in one place and sending it everywhere by wire are coming to an end.

Fascinating stuff, Tesla is doing. Too bad that proposed carbon tax money will never reach the R&D for this type of stuff.

he has the most subsidized company on the planet. Beat out GE.

Nearly identical systems just like this were built almost 150 years ago.

They ran the telegraph with the same tech.

Because it's a 150 year old design.

Nothing special about his battery technology either.

The little experiment in Australia might as well be 10 or 15 thousand old car batteries hooked-up in parallel getting charged during the day and used at night.

What a laugh that people actually believe in this fantasy

All it takes is one cell to fail.

The Tesla company is being subsidized in the same way that the CNR was subsidized - for the good of the nation.

And no, Tesla's lithium ion battery is not 150 year old technology - it is the result of 150 years of technological advance in the field.

Isn't it interesting how the pushback comes from oil and gas promoters?

The CNR was created from a bunch of bankrupt railways, and was a wholly-owned crown corp until it was sold off. Are you trying to suggest that Tesla is a US crown corp?

Saskatchewan to the rescue!

Shares in US Lithium (OTCMKTS:LITH) went ballistic Friday after the exploration firm announced it had acquired a copper, nickel, cobalt project in Canada’s Saskatchewan.

The Gochagar Lake project, until now property of Diamond Hunter, consists of four claims covering 3,759 hectares located in northern Saskatchewan approximately 75 km north of the town of La Ronge, the Nevada-based company said.

Other than copper, expected to be the best performing commodity this year, the area is know for having semi-massive and massive Ni-Cu deposits with significantly elevated levels of cobalt, a vital component in the manufacture of the latest generation of lithium ion batteries.

“With over 50% of the world’s cobalt currently supplied from the conflict-stricken Democratic Republic of the Congo, we welcome the opportunity to explore for this critical mineral in the mining friendly jurisdiction of Saskatchewan,” the company’s chief executive Greg Rotelli said in the statement.

Strip mining. Superduper ecofriendly.

I'm trying to suggest that anyone who is giving Tesla a subsidy is doing the right thing.
