Tedious Olympic Opening Ceremonies

My vision is that Aboriginals are a mystery to us so they should have been presented as a mystery. They live way out in the wilderness or poverty stricken in the cities. VANOC and everyone else sidestepped the issue as usual and missed a big chance.

the mystery is in your own heart, it was their country first, so they are the authentic hosts, and deserved to
be first to greet the world, I loved it.

The mystery is in the heart? So explain how you and millions of other Canadians have this vast instinctive knowledge of aboriginals. Go ahead, I'll read it.

Being first often doesn't matter. Aboriginals like many other nations in the world have moved around, shoved other people around, settled, and moved on.

Hosts? Did they pay for the Games? More like Wal-Mart greeters.

In my opinion the opening ceremonies were quite boring and tacky (not like Beijing was much better), from that oversized bonfire that was missing a stick with what seemed to resemble a burning log cabin on top, to the unending chauffeuring of Gretzky to the lighting of the flame half a light-year away. I wasn't expecting otherwise.

Is the Canadian story an aboriginal story? With imagery of aboriginal poles towering above everything else? As if they are the most powerful group in the country.

Most of it, yes. But the opening ceremonies didn't represent that; it was like something out of Walt Disney. And did we fail to notice the massive First Nations protest outside? Why? Precisely because the display misrepresents the actual situation, which isn't quite so rosy; being an indian in Canada has little to do with what was shown. Even someone with little to no background info would interpret that as patronizing.

Why would you ever think they would be interesting? Opening ceremonies never are. Stop whining already.

I beg to differ:

YouTube - Barcelona '92 Opening Ceremony 12 - The Olympic Flame

Barcelona '92 went smooth as silk, starting with the extraordinary lighting of the flame in true Olympian fashion. Granted, those weren't the Winter Olympics.

From a rating of one to ten it came in as a minus ten.
I blame the Conservative government because they got rid of funding for the arts

LOL Partisanship makes it in every time.

Patronizing, that's the word I was looking for. Another example of how aboriginal leadership look out for themselves first. It's just in their nature.

I'm watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and they suck. Visitors to Canada will think we are multilingual in French, aboriginal languages and English. Only in the deluded minds of the govt.

The show of Indians dancing around is dull, so are the totem poles. Some Indians don't even want to be called Canadians. Why are they at centrestage of the Olympics Games?

Tedious.

I was afriad the show would be an embarassment. Much like the show in Turin four years ago.

So how does this differ from the lame pap presented at every opening of 'Olympics Inc.'?

Aboriginal bands claim all of BC, they have overlapping claims with each other. They have no respect for other bands who have competing land claims. They care nothing who among them came "first". So why should we care they were ahead of us?
Well I'm not surprised you posted that considering the fact that you are a trolling racist.

I find it odd that KD would use a mike with wire if she was lipsyncing. She would have use wireless like the other performers.

Maybe it's her comfort zone on stage. Adams used a mike too (and sometimes he held it to his face lol).

well it seems, if lypsincing was done it was a huge success,
as you are all thinking one way and another, so I would not
have known the difference, unless it was so bad that the
lips weren't in sync with the recording, so if they are
doing their own voices, what's the difference, makes it
closer to perfect.

As long as they don't get different routines mixed up with one another,
or maybe that would be entertaining too. lol

If they had of done it live, and people were having trouble picking up the
words and such, then there would have been lots of whining about that, so
maybe lypsincing is the right thing to do in such a big place, where the acoustics
could play tricks on listeners.

Yup, that's why they do it. It sounds better and nothing catastrophic is likely to happen.

I often wondered what would happen if the warped logic of they were here first so they deserve special treatment was applied to Europe where there have been successive waves of conquers for centuries. Who's first, where?

A trolling racist? What junk.

Aboriginals are no better or worse than everyone else, they fought wars and had and have major disagreements with each other. Those races dislike each other. No?

Land claims in BC are a business, deal with it. The govt is so afraid of being called politically incorrect they kowtow to unelected, undemocratic aboriginal leadership. The mass of Indians are stunted and live in poverty. The old hunting and gathering traditions are dead, but we pump more money into misery.

It turns out, VANOC announced performers would lipsync prior to the event.

Vancouver Olympic opening ceremonies will feature lip-synching, not dubbing - Winnipeg Free Press

From the article, this is what caught my eye:
"Everyone will be performing live in the stadium and performing vocally live but we always pre-record their voices to ensure the quality of the broadcast. And if something happens, within a fraction of a second we can flip from live to pre-recorded."

I'm sure there was lipsyncing going on, but if all the artists did it, then I would have to say it's the best lip syncing I've seen yet.
