Red states give more money to charity than blue states, according to a new study on Monday.

The eight states with residents who gave the highest share of their income to charity supported Sen. John McCain in 2008, while the seven states with the least generous residents went for President Barack Obama, the Chronicle of Philanthropy found in its new survey of tax data from the IRS for 2008.

The eight states whose residents gave the highest share of their income — Utah, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Idaho, Arkansas and Georgia — all backed McCain in 2008. Utah leads charitable giving, with 10.6 percent of income given.

And the least generous states — Wisconsin, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire — were Obama supporters in the last presidential race. New Hampshire residents gave the least share of their income, the Chronicle stated, with 2.5 percent.

“The reasons for the discrepancies among states, cities, neighborhoods are rooted in part in each area’s political philosophy about the role of government versus charity,” the study’s authors noted.
But it’s not just about politics — “religion has a big influence on giving patterns.”

That is because the rich people living in those states stole the most money.
Ever see these people praying on television? They are all praying they don't

Hmm, this wreaks of methodological bias. I''ll explain.

This study didn't even look at tax returns for individuals who make less than $50,000 a year. Considering that they adjusted the data relative to income, then they don't really have a good reason for not including those who earn under $50,000, at least none that they explicitly would state. Though maybe it's political? Obama took 60% of the vote from the under $50,000 earners, compared to McCain's 38%.

What's more? The poor actually donate more as a percentage of their income than the rich:

The authors of this Red state stuff note that they left out the under $50,000 earners, but never explained what 'discrepancies' exist for under $50,000 earners. That's sketchy. Due to this methodology, the study only evaluated about 63% of total donations, or $135 billion out of the estimated $214 billion donated in 2008. Again, considering that these dollars were relative to after tax and living expenses, well you don't need to be a math wiz to understand how leaving out a large portion of a demographic that in larger proportions voted for Obama will skew the results.

Yep, no bias at all is there...

Red States Are The Real Welfare States

The secret is not so secret after all, many Red states are really parasites and gold-diggers when it comes to collecting Federal dollars even though they are the most vociferous about government spending.MotherJones.com posts some wonderful maps that highlight these bloodsucking states who want you to believe that they are really against expanding the government spending that they crow about. Empty vessels really do make the most noise.

MotherJones adds…”Of the 22 states that went to McCain in 2008, 86 percent received more federal spending than they paid in taxes in 2010. In contrast, 55 percent of the states that went to Obama received more federal spending than they paid in taxes. Republican states, on average, received $1.46 in federal spending for every tax dollar paid; Democratic states, on average, received $1.16.”

States receiving the most federal funding per tax dollar paid:

1. New Mexico: $2.63
2. West Virginia: $2.57
3. Mississippi: $2.47
4. District of Colombia: $2.41
5. Hawaii: $2.38
6. Alabama: $2.03
7. Alaska: $1.93
8. Montana: $1.92
9. South Carolina: $1.92
10. Maine: $1.78

Contrary to popular belief, those who make the most noise noise complaining about Federal spending and the programs said spending support, are in fact the same people who collect those Federal dollars and who coincidentally don’t want to give up the programs. Their states; the RED ones… receive more per dollar, than they give,as a recent New York Times article documents–even as fiscally conservative lawmakers complain about deficit spending–their constituents don’t want to give up the Social Security checks, Medicare benefits, and earned income tax credits that provide a safety net for the struggling middle class.”

- I recommend that Vice President Joe "Mr. .2%" Biden be chosen by Obama as the official spokesperson for national charitable giving.

- And while Barack is on a roll, he might also appoint:

Reverend Jeremiah Wright as the official spokesperson for racial reconciliation and tolerance in America.

Minuteman Bill Ayers as the offical spokesperson for non-violent political dissent.

Rom Emmanuel as the official spokesperson for bi-partisan political co-operation and progress

etc., etc.
