Part of s_pics post paraphased by Durgan. Good post s-pics. Thanks for the informed input. It is a sort of self-analysis of Canadians.

Paraphased quote.
...But in fact the problem is not really from these Middle East People, or transient immigrant people. They chose coming to Canada, and make their money how they can.

The problem is here in our own house. We, North American's are generally too lazy to own a farm... or to lazy to go work on a farm.... so we hire a foreigner...same kind of reason why our clothing, appliance, car, almost everything else; in fact, is made overseas by unseeing kids slaves. This is probably why our economy is mostly based on services, because we are to lazy to work for real, so we go sit in a call center, sit in our new car (purchase on payments), sit in our lazyboy, and wait in front of our microwave tapping our foot waiting for the food to be ready.

This is the reality we are stupidly lazy, dumb, greedy, and voluntarily closed in our little capitalistic world... Paraphased unquote.

As I see it,the price the farmer receives for his produce is the major reason he has to keep his labour costs down,so he can't afford to pay what we consider a living wage and has to bring in foreign workers to bring in his crops. So,Leamington,Ont. has a large influx of Mexican workers there 8 months a year for the tomato harvests--so what? They want to work, the farmers have little choice, and we want the tomatos. It's a win-win situation from my standpoint.

That is part of the problem missle, is what farmers get. They get know where near what prices we pay for products in the supermarket. The middle men make all the money.

We saw that in action with mad cow crisis, beef never went down in the stores, farmers getting nothing for their cows yet arseholes like Tyson's were raking it in and still sold beef at same pre mad cow crisis rates, when they were purchasing cows for next to nothing.

The same thing happened in the late 90's with pork. Farmers were slaughtering then burning their pigs because it was not worth it to sell them. Yet we still paid top dollar at supermarket. Some farmers around peace area and Alberta Peace area (when I lived in Fort st. John) were donating pigs to food banks and other charities. Which was good on their part. I actually bought two pigs off a farmer for 75$ each and another 60$ each to get them cut and wrapped. So it cost me 270$ for 320 pounds of pork cut and wrapped, including sausage, smoked hams and smoked bacon. But yet going to Overwaitia, IGA or Safeway, pork was selling for top dollar. So the middle men again bought a product (pork) cheap but still sold it to grocery stores for regualr price, therefore padding their pockets.

Pork and Beef are by far not the only industries that this happens to. The feds need to change or strengthen some laws, so the middlemen don't rip off both farmers, producers and the public.

When that happens, then farmers will make more money and be able to hire workers at a descent wage.

Actually I will write a letter to Jack Layton suggesting this.

That would only be a benefit to the small grower/farmer.it's the large corporate farms who dictate the prices and wages & in a lot of instances, the corporation is the actual middleman! so,it seems that there is little or no future for the small, independent farmer in North America. I'm not at all happy to predict this :(

Thats the truth. It is sad to see the family farms dissapearing.

Big farm conglomerates pushing out little guys. I have a great Aunt who lives outside of Prince Albert on a farm and she said big compaies own sections after sections of land, they buy the farms, tear down the houses, trees and barns and plant every inch with crops.

I recently read that there are 5 major corporations that control just about all the food production and distribution in our country. McCains is one of them.

I'd like to say that if a Jamaican wishes to come to Canada and pick mushrooms for 17 hours a day at 7.70 an hour, who are we to stop them?

But for the record, a Jamaican came to my town to pick mushrooms. He went into a local bar and started to rob it. One of most valued citizens tried to stop the robbery. He was killed. The a*shole jamaican went and continued to pick his mushrooms and flew back to his little country never to be heard from again. This is still an unsolved murder in my town.

Who plays the harmonica now? Nobody.

Come on! Unsubstantiated allegations.

How about the fellow working for $7.70 for 8 hours and getting overtime of $11.55 for the next ten hours. This would appear to me to be more appropiate to me. Try it sometime.

Naw, the landscapers do the same. And hey, they are allowed to go home, any time. Don't tell me they didn't know they had a choice. No one forced them at gunpoint to come to Canada. They were not sold by their government to Canada. They came of their own free will and they aren't even the ones complaining.

HARDLY unsubstantiated allegations. A FACT.

Sweetheart. After banging my head on the wall three times to insure I am alive. I will point out again the obvious item ,which is a quote of a portion of your post, that is an allegation. This is more than obvious to any normal person reading the post.

How you could possibly take the other portion of your post to refute is beyond logic. Bang, Bang, Bang.

Who would the voluntary slaves complain to? That is one of the points of this thread.
