Should liberals leave Catholic Church?

I'll never understand that argument. If people decide the church is wrong about premarital sex, then aren't they moronic to decide it's right about birth control? Choosing to ignore one major doctrine, but follow another, and then blaming the church for the end result, is a weak, weak argument.

Either follow all of the doctrines (ie, monogamous sex), or disobey ALL necessary ones to keep you safe from your folly.

I don't know any religious person who follows ALL their church's teachings. I think that would be impossible since it would be demanding perfection from an imperfect human being.

There has been some discussion on this forum about Pope Francis and whether he is liberal or not. The following may give reason for why libs should not leave the RCC:

Pope Francis just replaced one of America's most conservative cardinals with one of its most liberal - The Week

Pope Francis just replaced one of America's most conservative cardinals with one of its most liberal

On Tuesday, Blase Cupich was installed as the ninth archbishop of Chicago, replacing Cardinal Francis George. Archbishop Cupich isn't a cardinal yet, but as head of America's third-largest diocese, it's only a matter of time. Cupich (pronounced SOO-pitch), 65, is Pope Francis' first big appointment in the U.S. Catholic hierarchy, and along with Francis ally Cardinal Seán O'Malley of Boston, is now one of America's most liberal senior prelates.
People overuse the idea of liberal and conservative wings of the Catholic Church, but assuming, roughly, that liberals focus more on social justice issues (poverty, death penalty, peace) and conservatives focus more on socially conservative ones (contraception, abortion, gays and lesbians, culture war), Cardinal George, 77, is probably among the most conservative of the 18 U.S. cardinals.
Like O'Malley and Pope Francis, Cupich is forgoing a palatial residence, in this case Chicago's Gold Coast archbishop's mansion, for more modest digs in the rectory of Holy Name Cathedral. --Peter Weber

If changes are to come from within the Catholic Church, liberals should be encouraged to stay and bring about the changes. If changes are to come from outside the Church then liberals should leave the Catholic Church as a show of protest. The diminishing numbers in membership will force changes.

But for those Catholics who want to remain in an oppressive religion because they find solace in the misery of others will find Islam better suited for their morbid self mortification. Muslims beat themselves in public with whips and knives till they bleed to show their grief and reverence for their God. They show a stronger commitment than Catholics gathering together to stare at a wooden cross.

Still publically shouting your ignorance I see.

That is only done among some Shiia in an act of self mortification much like a few Catholics do during Easter when they self flagellate and pierce their hands.

It comes down to something more basic. Are you going to let a church dictate what
you think or are you going to think for yourself? There is no such thing as a heretic
Just because you don't swallow the kool-aid does not mean you are a terrible person.
I left a long time ago the reason is someone was telling me you must believe this or
that or you can't go to heaven or whatever. From before I could walk until I went out
on my own I was compelled to go to church. Mass was boring nothing in it for me at
all. Once I moved out I took my father to Midnight Mass at Christmas and I went for
weddings and funerals. Nothing changed. Everyone living their lives according to
some book written two thousand years ago and taking it literally without question in
most cases.
The Bible was supposed to contain a message of hope and salvation etc. Instead the
churches and organized religion use it as a weapon or at best its used to control
people through Fear of the Lord More and more people are no longer being afraid.
The result is for many the hollow messages are becoming meaningless. The comforting
words are just that comforting words without action. The church had a chance to
move into the modern world with this new Pope. Instead the church retreated into its
cofortbable role of mediocrity So we have two faiths in the is regard, the rigid institution
of the Catholic Church and the in your face revivalist Evangelistic display of you are
all going to hell unless you believe what we believe in the end the end up in the same
place Void od relevancy

If more participated in the public display of faith. It might signal a religious revival. The passion of Christ was a Hollywood hit. We need more visuals on the tormented souls of Christians suffering from guilt and their inequities and not the sanitized version of Christians worshipping an immovable wooden cross.

The church used to believe that the earth was the center of the universe. Of course you need enlightened people to stay in the church and drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st-century

But the Christians have learnt their lesson. Now they keep their ignorance to themselves and their church by not imposing their unscientific views on others. But that is only part of the solution. At the other end of the spectrum Churches should not be insulated from science or knowledge.

Wow, hard to believe that in this day and age someone could be so stupid.

So I guess you aren't going to take Gerry's advice and stop showing your ignorance.

Obviously not.

Didn't you know Gerry... Catholic High Schools and Universities do not teach science and teach that the earth is 6,000 years old.

That would be baffling to someone who searched the scriptures or asked his pastor for the answer and ended up with the priest's hands in his pants. You might have been surprised you too can talk and breathe at the same time if only the priest did not keep you busy.

Well, you know what they say, if you got it, flaunt it! Lol, and he's certainly doing that.

It is so nice to see the metric you use to pick your side. I trust you will respond equally to shock and awe.

It's what you've thus far demonstrated yourself to be worth.

I trust you will respond equally to shock and awe.
So far you've proven yourself to be ignorant, obtuse, unable to stick to a specific topic, even ones you bring up yourself in what one can only assume is some vague attempt to make a point, so I'm not particularly worried that you will shock and/or awe me any time soon.

Women are very judgemental even though they have proven time and again to be poor judges of people. Talk to the women in battered shelters for women, rape victims and single parents, All cases where poor judgement was exercised by women. They like to be shocked and awed as we have seen with the CBC host Jian Ghomeshi. But don't like to be dumped which is an obvious contradiction. If you allow someone to treat you like trash. Isn't it logical you will be dumped like trash. Just one male like Ghomeshi attracted some 2 dozen trashy women. And Joseph Smith according to an OP had 40 to deal with. I am sure the bar is higher to shock and awe women today. Or did the scarborough baptist pastor try too hard?
