A lot of arrogance in this thread. By the way China, I'm Canadian, as my profile outlines, if you did not believe I was German, you should have checked my profile not my location.

1. Being forced to work against your will is just that: being forced to work against your will. Regardless if you get paid peanuts for it; the wage is always subpar in these consciption plans. Slavery is slavery because you have no choice, not because it is unpaid. Giving a person a choice, say, you cannot vote until doing a year of service, that is another thing entirely.

2. This is a counter point to bigots who think that just because someone isn't above 19, they are lazy. Yes, bigots: consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit = discrimination.

I'll leave the title open to interpretation.
Why would i as a taxpayer want an Adult Day Care - parents calling - 18 years and older whining - Jesus you must like punishment -
A sizable number of young teens when surveyed when given the choice - would sacrifice a limb over losing their cell phone - Now that says it all -
Imagine when they start to fill leadership positions - we are truly screwed.

As was mentioned, learning to take a job seriously, proper work ethic, training in a field you may want to work in someday (civilian life). All paid for. Freeing up your parents from paying for 2-3 years of college that you party thru. (4th year you come to realization that you will be on your own and you manage to graduate). The most important thing you will learn is yes you can survive in this big world. Those life skills you mention are totally up to you.
