The British never named it after Christopher Columbus, but after the Columbia River. I wonder if the CBC even fact check this before posting this.

The cbc has an agenda. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with reporting the truth or portraying both sides fairly or objectively.

They need to have their funding pulled..

From the article you cited: "British Columbia was named after the Columbia River..." And then it goes on to say, "...whose name, like several others in the Americas including Colombia and the District of Columbia in the U.S., is derived from the explorer."

They seem to have done a better job than you did. Try reading an article before you go posting rude remarks about it.

And where do you think the name of the ship comes from? Pretty much every instance of that name, for anything in North America, places, commercial vessels, naval vessels, businesses, you pick it, derives from the name of that explorer.

You pathetic snowflakes will try anything to find any connection..

So a bunch of Wagon Burners have hurt feeling over what happened under Christopher Columbus to their ancestors. Get over it ya TURDLERBURGER.

Do you know how much it would cost in legislation and just changing the name on all the damn forms and paperwork?!

How about everyone gets reasonable access to clean drinking water?! Maybe some affordable housing?? Maybe better healthcare and other important things before we worry about a Bunch of Snowflake Injuns.

British Columbia is named after a boat, the Columbia Rediviva, which was named after Columbia, a female national personification of the US, which was inspired by Columbus at one point. It's like 6 degrees of separation from Columbus.

Anything else Snowflake??

I dunno man. A majority supported changing the name of Dundas St. in Toronto, until they learned what the financial cost could be. I can't imagine it would be cheaper to change the name of an entire province.

Besides, this is just more of that cultural Marxism bullshit. It is based purely in moral and emotional relativism and it needs to be eradicated toute de suite. There's a vaccine for that too, it's called a bullet. The beauty of that vaccine is you only need to inject the infected.

If we are going to change the name, we are going to declare independence and drop our transfer payments to ontarieOWE at the same time.

Queen Victoria came up with the name in 1856.

It refers to the Columbia District, the area drained by the Columbia River.

Queen Victoria chose British Columbia to distinguish what was the British sector of the Columbia District from the United States ("American Columbia" or "Southern Columbia"), which became the Oregon Territory on August 8, 1848, as a result of a treaty in which Britain gave its portion of Southern Columbia to the USA.
