The Ethics Commissioner of Canada, Bernard Shapiro, has agreed to conduct an investigation into the conduct of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, the Prime Minister of Canada, in relation to the possible inducement of the Honourable David Emerson, the current Minister of International Trade, to cross to the Government side of the House. The investigation is to be made at the request of the Honourable Wayne Easter, Member for Malpeque.

In a strange turn of events, the Conservative Party of Canada, according to a spokesperson, has expressed that the party has no intention of co-operating in the investigation, questioning the legitimacy of the Commissioner as a "Liberal appointee", saying that his investigation would only be a "partisan attack."

You may wonder why I would deem such events to be strange. I would make such an assertion because the Conservative Party of Canada had expressed no qualms in relation to his appointment before; they expressed no concerns over impartiality when they were sitting on the Committee that questioned Mr. Shapiro after his nomination, and the Tories have used the office several times in the past months and years to hold the previous Government of Canada to account — they seemed to believe in its legitimacy only a few weeks ago.

Now, this is really suspicious that the Conservatives who are just as bad as the Liberals want to get rid of the ethics commissioner.

Now the ethics guy is an idiot, so they could let him do his review and then can him.

Or can him put someone in his place, but if that guy or girl doesn't say anything went wrong and doesn't have an investigation we know the Conservatives are trying to rig the ethics so they seem to be good.

"In a release, the PMO added, "this Liberal appointee's actions have strengthened the prime minister's resolve to create a truly non-partisan ethics commissioner, who is accountable to Parliament."

So when the Liberals appoint someone, he is automatically corrupt.

When Harper replaces him, absolutely okay. Yeah right.

However, if the person appointed agrees to look upon this issue, than Harper did a good job, if he or she does nothing than that person is just a Harperite trying to clear his name from wrong doing. We will have to wait and see.

Fine. Shapiro might be a political appointee.

If Harper selects someone who will not look into the matter. Then he is just as corrupt and bad as the Liberals.

What's to look at anyways?

Isn't this a Liberal asking a liberal to look into something the conservatives did, after the Liberals did the same thing?

Who cares? (Liberals trying to tie up the government...thats who)

It is the NDP who is asking to look into this matter which is illegal under the constitution of the parliment section 8. This is an extremely serious matter.
