National Seniors Day took place this week on October 1, 2014, and Canada is proud to pay tribute to the seniors who have helped build our country and continue to make valuable contributions to Canadian communities, workplaces and society.

In the Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada committed to ensuring the financial security for Canada’s seniors. As part of this commitment, it allocated $400 million dollars to help build housing for low-income seniors, and over $2.7 million to help prevent and reduce homelessness among seniors. This is additional to the $75 billion dollars spent on ensuring the financial security of seniors through ongoing commitments such as the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security Programs. In 2012-2013, over five million seniors received close to $40 billion dollars in Old Age Security Benefits. Over $2.6 billion in tax relief has also been granted to seniors since 2005.

Learn more about the ways that the Government of Canada is helping seniors.

Gotta shore up the seniors vote. There's an election on the horizon

"If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart and if you are not conservative at thirty, you have no brain."

So the Conservative vote is in the bag... and 1 foot in the grave.

Some say that quote is by Churchill...

In Churchill's day, “liberal” didn't mean what it does in the U.S.A. today. In fact, it still means something quite different in most of the rest of the Anglo-sphere.

U.S. leftists co-opted the word “liberal”; because they knew better than to call themselves what they actually are.

Churchill would have said “socialist” — and that's how I've always heard the quote repeated.

Most people that claim they are conservative aren't. Any true conservative would complain about these blatant attempt to buy people's votes.

Seniors did not build this country. They lived here, they worked here and did all the same things we did they just did it in the past and one the backs of previous generations. I am a member of the Northern Alberta Pioneers + Decedents Association and I can tell you there are a lot of ways we can honour those who came before us but the blanket call they built this land is nonsense.

here I found this which backs what you have said and it is an interesting quote:

I think being a liberal, in the true sense, is being nondoctrinaire, nondogmatic, non-committed to a cause - but examining each case on its merits. Being left of center is another thing; it's a political position. I think most newspapermen by definition have to be liberal; if they're not liberal, by my definition of it, then they can hardly be good newspapermen. If they're preordained dogmatists for a cause, then they can't be very good journalists; that is, if they carry it into their journalism."

That's not what they are doing. In fact, that is not even what they are trying to do.

I think they're trying for votes..........(homeless people vote ?!8O) Most of em are just trying to live from day to day, and keep warm.

Once the cons are elected again they'll just tell the homeless to fukk off, as usual.

Woopee for you, wellfed. People worked, and in doing so, made things better. Helped build a country if you will.

Homeless people don't vote. Seniors vote. That's why they are trying to help homeless seniors and not the homeless in general. Anybody that knows anything about the homeless problem knows mental illness is the main issue. If the Conservatives said they were trying to deal with mental health issues they might have some credibility on the homeless issue.

Really what exactly are they doing?

Of course homeless people vote. They just don't have homes. You need a home to vote?
yes actually I guess you do because you need an address no?

Option 3

Take an oath and have an elector who knows you vouch for you (both of you will be required to make a sworn statement). This person must have authorized identification and their name must appear on the list of electors in the same polling division as you. This person can only vouch for one person and the person who is vouched for cannot vouch for another elector.

Examples: a neighbour, your roommate.
