A man has been jailed for more than eight years for raping a man in Birmingham.

Qadir Miakhil, of Alum Rock Road in Alum Rock, denied the offence, but was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court.

The 24-year-old was jailed for eight and a half years and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.

In a statement his victim, 20, said he thought he "was going to die" and the experience led to the break down in his relationship with his girlfriend.

"He left me feeling like I was not human anymore," he said.

"I was so terrified. I think it will take a long time to get over what has happened to me. I just want to put it behind me and move on with my life."

Det Sgt Jacqueline Mircetic, of West Midlands Police, said male rape was often a "taboo subject".

She said a range of support was available to both women and men affected by rape.

"Men often find it difficult to come forward, but I hope that today's proceedings demonstrate how seriously the police and courts take sexual abuse - in all its forms," she said.

Seems to me that 8 1/2 years is rather steep compared to what rapists whose victims are women get.

That all depends on whether they knew eachother, were socializing with one another, or it was a snatch and grab rape.

The law grants men who know women leniency in their sentencing, because, apparently familiarity is an excuse? But, for snatch and grab stranger rapes, the law is extremely harsh. If this was a stranger rape, with no social interaction, then this is exceedingly light compared to what he'd be sentenced for doing so to a woman.

Thanks for clarifying that.
