Scientists have for the first time discovered a fossil of a dinosaur’s brain.
The fossil was actually found a decade ago, by a researcher who noticed an odd-shaped pebble on a English beach and took it home.
The impression in the stone, scientists concluded in a study released this week, was made from a tiny bit of brain tissue from a large, herbivorous type of dinosaur.
The findings were published in a special publication of the Geological Society of London and in the journal Science.
Somehow, scientists say, the dinosaur’s body toppled upside down, and its head was preserved under the muck of the acidic, low-oxygen waters, where the brain tissues were “pickled.”
They’ve even traced back what part of the beast’s brain was likely fossilized — a small piece at the top of its skull - and it’s given them further insight into the dinosaur’s genetic makeup.
The structure of the tissue is reportedly similar to both birds and crocodiles, the researchers said.

How much of it did the dino use is the next question? How much did the study cost in grant money terms??

I'm thinking birds and 'lizards' (cold blooded) could both learn to use the ponds and lakes for food and safety until the oceans (salty water) themselves begin to form. Fish would have adapted from lizards where the legs went sideways away from each other and the ribs became the dorsal fin support. If you broke the stomach muscles the hips and legs could then move like a present day frog, or close to it maybe.
