I could be. I could be Buddhist, or Jewish, or agnostic, or a Flames supporter.
That, dear Captain, is irrelevant.
What is relevant is upwards of 40 percent of Canadians self identify as Catholic. That is a huge swath of the population. For any Canadian not to be interested in what drives and restricts his fellow travellers is incomprehensible to me. Are the wishes and aspirations of those citizens being met? The latter was a rhetorical question.

Some folks make it their business to tinker with all those around them in order to create a world to their liking

Far be for any of us to hope or advocate for a better world.

I am Catholic (non-practicing), and of the population of Catholics that I know, the issue of celibacy does not make it anywhere on the radar... I/we see it as a personal choice not unlike the choice to be an Oilers fan and considered immune to the dictates of those that aren't the ones making that decision.

Same goes for Judaism, Buddhism or Muslims, they are free to pursue their beliefs individually in accordance with the laws of the land

That's a very strong statement that your solutions will result in a better world.

Sadly, there is no lack of fanatics, dictators and lunatics that have used the excuse of 'making the world a better place' as the impetus to quash the freedoms of others and institute their specific ideals

And, SLM, you are drawing that connection; celibacy is a part of the problem in its restriction of the pool of candidates and whom it attracts.

And to draw aspersions, Dear Captain, against those who see injustice or idiocy as travelling in Hitler's boots is less than rational. Unworthy is the correct term.

And, among the population of Catholics I know, celibacy is front and centre.

I do have a somewhat unrelated question: where does it say in the gospels that there are to be 'priests' in the first place, let alone that they must remain unmarried?

Even Jesus would probably have married had he not been chased around all the time, as He Himself clarifies that he did not have a stone on which to rest his head.

From the response that I read, it appeared that the connection was similar to the Indian politician that blamed the rapes on the victim's having dressed too provocatively

If you see your commentary as being Hitleresque, that is your assessment. I specifically did not invoke any imagery of Nazism.

So, I'll ask again: Are you a Catholic?

No, I'm not drawing any connections that aren't observable.

Just because the UN hasn't cracked down on every single possibility of pedobears, doesn't mean they have some tinfoil agenda. It just goes to show that the most prominent conduit for this type of behaviour are older males who don't have access to the fairer gender.

And that's just on this page in this thread. Do I really need to go back through all the threads on this specific topic to show a pattern of behaviour with the kind of implications that I'm talking about?

I didn't quote anybody when I first posted my observation. But I do stand by it. I'd wager real money I can find just as many posts related to the equation of celibacy and pedophilia as I can posts on "what was she wearing" in threads on the topic of rape.

Frankly I find the direction of the discussion, on both issues, to muddy the waters and detract from real issues related to it. And these are issues that have an enormous volume of victims.
