Saddam Hussein will be hanged on Saturday at the latest, a judge in Baghdad said Friday as U.S. authorities handed the ousted president over to Iraqi authorities - a last step before execution.

Maybe it's time for Canada to step in and offer asylum. He can't be much of a risk to the Iraqi community here and it might even get us some international brownie points. It's not as if we haven't danced with the devil before. Or sat in his lap.

I wonder what the jubilant headlines will read if/when it happens- likely be huge pics of Saddam dangling there with "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" or "WE GOT HIM" emblazoned in 30 point type, should be a totally ironic spectacle for sure

Interesting take on that, too, Tamarin, tho I think Stevie might want one of them Saddam pistols or something and Dubya would likely refuse if we did something wacky like that...

In all seriousness, tho, he really did get a sham trial- the event that they "busted" him on actually took place during the Iran-Iraq war, no?? I thought it was an incident from 1982... no matter, no doubt he is/was a BAD man, miscarrying justice in the manner it has been done in his case doesn't fix ANYTHING and I think crowds of YEE HAWING folks urinating on pictures of a dead man who had NOTHING to DO WITH THEM will be a truly shameful deal...

I'm waiting for the Franklin Mint's "Dangling Dictator" desk sculpture tho, for sheer black humour related reasons

And to shut anyone who might be waiting to pounce right up straight away, I would not applaud the execution of even such a shadowy super-villain as Dick Cheney. Incarceration, public humiliation/pantsing YES but killing his til he's dead is just barbaric, period

When they hang Saddam Iraq will explode. There will be so much violence. And the threat to the United States will be huge. Saddam deserves to be put away for life, maybe even die, but it's not in the best interest for peace.

Something about this kangaroo court rubs me the wrong way. Perhaps they should hand over Bush for the carnage he has brought to the 10's of thousands of innocent victims in Iraq. This spectacle is nothing short of the stone age, which is what Bush has brought the world back to.

A sentiment I can agree whole heartedly with you on.
