I am so far beyond jaded I may in fact be looping back around to optimism.

Or I'm succumbing to the lure of deep, deep denial.

One or the other.

Conservative governments run, in part, on anti-immigrant racism: the unfounded and irrational fear that Canada has an open door policy and we're being flooded with dark-skinned moochers corrupting good Canadian values. This is a common feeling among the ignorant and bigoted, and the Conservatives tapped into it. But they don't actually believe in the foreign menace and this how they all duped you.

The Conservative government made changes in immigration policy that look like they were being stricter about immigrants having jobs on arrival and contributing to the economy, instead of the previous policies that saw doctors driving cabs. You shouldn't be surprised that the actual result of this policy does not solve the problems of immigration they said it would, straight up continues the exploitation of immigrants for cheap labour and entirely benefits corporations at the expense of long-term skilled employees. Nor should you be surprised that a bank, of all businesses, is exploiting this system, and everyone is going to get away with it.

Next time don't buy into the anti-immigrant rhetoric and don't believe that conservatives actually care about your personal racist hang-ups. They just use it, like they do with things like religion, to screw you and line the pockets of their rich friends.
