VANCOUVER - More than five years after Robert Dziekanski died at Vancouver International Airport, the BC Coroners Service has classified his death as a homicide.

The coroner’s report released Monday found that Dziekanski, 40, died from a heart attack moments after four RCMP officers zapped him five times with a Taser.

The Polish immigrant landed in Vancouver on Oct. 13, 2007. Unable to speak English and with no Polish translator available, Dziekanski spent the next 10 hours waiting for his immigration application to be approved by customs officials.

By the time he was released into the semi-secure international reception lounge, he became agitated and confused.

While witnesses didn’t report feeling threatened, airport security called the RCMP nonetheless.

No charges were ever laid in his death and the coroner’s ruling does not imply fault or blame.

Dziekanski’s death was extensively investigated by the Braidwood Inquiry. Its recommendations led to a significant drop in police Taser use starting in 2008 and the creation of the Independent Investigations Office — an agency that investigates deaths and serious injuries involving police.

The Mounties involved are currently facing perjury charges in relation to their testimony at the Braidwood Inquiry.

How can the coroner's ruling of 'homicide' not imply fault or blame? Is the definition of homicide that the death is the fault of another?

They don't assign fault or blame to an individual. That's of a different office to do.

I don't think it is the coroners job to fix blame, isn't that why the police have detectives? Oh my, the cops will have to investigate themselves and we already know how that will turn out.

Same office.

The Coroner went with a report instead of an inquest to stymie the public from exposing the attempted coverup.

It's all "Above the Law" hackery of justice and RESPECT for Canadians.

B.C. coroner says Dziekanski inquest not needed

There will be no inquest into the death of Robert Dziekanski, who died after being stunned multiple times by a Taser during a confrontation with Mounties at Vancouver International Airport in October 2007.

Chief B.C. Coroner Lisa Lapointe says her office had planned to hold an inquest after the police investigation was complete, but now she says it's not in the public interest because a full public inquiry has been held into the case.

However, a coroner's report on the death will still be released to the public.

It's obvious the inquiry didn't work in try to cover up the homicide.

Will there be charges?
